Thanks mabueker,
The wheels are savage 25 with solid disc rims, i am going to use three thunder tiger ssk diffs with a 2 speed tranmission and an OS LDX 15 engine for now i may put a 4 stroke in at a later stage.

Why not an aluminum chassis, still light weight but much more durable than wood. It also make for a better mounting surface.

How are you going to deal with the skid track steering style?

he could use a controller with sticks, which i'd imagine is what he'll use, makes more sense

Hi all,
OK to answer your questions, its wood because I am using an OS 15 LDX nitro engine so want to keep it really light , i have aluminum and weighed both, and the ply was a lot lighter, and its marine muilti ply used on model tug boats so is really strong great for fixing to and as sfar785 said ,wood floats LOL, I aim to make it swim just like the real thing.
Also you can use supa glue to put it all together and being a master carpenter wood is the material of my trade.

To achieve the skid steer i will have a central diff driven by a 2 speed gearbox with disk brakes, the central diff will drive the centre wheels through dog bones with a chain drive coming from it via sprockets to the front and rear wheels.
The four front wheels will be able to turn just like the MK2.
A servo will turn all four front wheels through 90 degree bellcrank linckages, the front wheels turn more than the centre wheels, the same servo will then pull on the disk brakes, just like the nitro blizzard, when at full steering lock to activate the skid steer.
This means i can use a three channel HPI radio system for steering , for throttle and for the working winch.
Hope this explains it all.
Thanks for the interest i will keep you posted.

Gorilla Glue or some caulk will hold better than Super Glue.

HI sfar785, its not really supaglue its cryoanacrylite and it the stuff the model boat builders use on there tugs and some of those suckers are really big, i am gonna reinforce the ply with 1/4 inch square wood just like the metal on the real thing, i have finished the scale working winch, just a few stickers and black paint maybe.

i find this cool as hell. i'm always into seeing peoples custom r/c's, makes the hobby that much more fun. But i know what kinda glue you're talking about, we use it to build our boats and we also use it for other things.

Hi sfar785,
Yep i am not one for sticking to the normal run of the mill buy it from the shelf, just love designing and building my own, such a challenge trying to overcome the problem making scale versions of the real thing.
That true about the glue its the very same they use on model boats thought it would be stronger, i am gonna seal the hull when its done so it will be watertight.
Just finished making a scale hook for the winch while waiting for the wheels to turn up.
I will post some new pics soon.

what motors are you gonna run in it? i'd want something with more torque than anything....and will it be true 6X6? i'd love to see it go through some mud with all 6 wheels spinning [>:]

i am gonna use a nitro engine, an os ldx 15 big block running a two speed gearbox then sprockets and chain final drive lots of torque.the gearbox is from an old kyosho nitro blizzard that pulled my savage 21 and its tote box.
and yes it is going to be a true 6x6, the four front wheels will steer then skid steer just like the real thing, hey if you are going to build a supacat its got to have 6 wheel drive.
worked on the mounting brackets for the wheel hubs post some pics tomorrow for ya.

Try these wood glues http://www.titebond.com/IntroPageTB.....asp?prodcat=1

We use Titebond II Premium Wood Glue in my Dad cabinet shop.

You know the easy way out is to use a tank transmition and drive system.

Hi everyone, heheheh, your right sfar785 if it was easy i wouldnt be doing it,
thanks for the glue link JB comp i used titebond when i was out in the states fantastic glue forgot all about it ,so i will be getting some ordered up cheers.
Ok to answer some questions,
Yes there will be a snorkel and a plate on the tailgate for an outboard motor like on the MK III,
Tank tranmission is a very good idea but not true to the special nature of the supacat.
any how i have a confession to make i will be using most of he drivetrain out of my kyosho blizzard this has 2 speed gearbox skid steer using disk brakes and forward and reverse, the hard part for me is getting it all linked up to thesteering servo and wheels for scale effect.
I have some more pictures.
