Default Which transponder

I started racing a week ago and there is a sweet track nearby but I need my own transponder. I did a forum search and see I need a third channel on my receiver (I assume to power the transponder). I have one with my Sanwa (Airtronics) MX3.

I did a search and found 2 manufacturers: AB and Robotronic. The AB is upward $100 while the robotronic is $34. I was going to get the cheaper one but I don't want to make a mistake. Are there other options?

Do you have a link on the Robotronic? AMB is the only thing I know of and is what most run. There is or was a company in UK that had AMB compatible TP for around $65 shipped. All so if you do not have a third channel you can use a Y harness.

Can I have a link to that Robotronic one? Im trying to get into racing but $80 for a used transponder seems very high. What are the advantges of that over the AMB systems?

The robotronic trans. is optical and it wont work with an AMB system. AMB is the ONLY one to have as it is the standard. Maybe ask around at the track and see if they rent them too.

These are the only non-AMB transponders that I know of that work with the AMB systems...

I don't understand the whole clone/ID thing though... They are cheaper than AMB PTs too.

I have a couple of these and they work great with the AMB system. The cloning is nice. You can have as many transponders as you want and they will all have the same number. No more switching between vehicles.

Those are sweet. The cloning would be useful too.
