How many min. per full tank are you guys getting with your 8ight (any, 1.0, 2.0, RTR, dont matter)??? I am getting a little above 5 min. on an average off-road track (jumps, whoops, long stretch)
Also, I notice that there is some fuel 'spraying' so to speak, out of my exhaust tip. Is this normal or do I have something set wrong? Its not a whole lot, but I noticed it when I crank it up on my work bench and some things I had sitting about 9" from the buggy has nitro fuel splatters on it. I am still new to nitro, so I dont know if its supposed to do that or if its not. Thanks!
BTW, I have the Losi RTR model with Mach 427 motor.

Hi, We race offroad, on most tracks you can get a little over 7 min. Some people say they can get 10 min. I find it very hard to believe though with out running it too hot. What is the temp? 230 to 240 is a good/safe temp. Also, Most people run a fuel filter and 1 to 1.5' of coiled fuel line to help with the run time. You will always get a mist of some kind from the exhaust. Good Luck.

The fuel filter gives you a little more fuel volume in the lines. The temp. sounds good, you can try leaning out the low end needle a little at a time. Give it a pinch test, (Clamp fuel line closed about 1.5" from carb.) it should take a couple of seconds to rev out. If it revs instantly its too lean / If it takes 6+ seconds to rev its too rich. Take your time and only make small adjustments at a time, if it runs worse/hotter then move it back to were it was. We ran a MACH427 in my sons losi, they are good motors for the price, but dont last that long and they do not tolerate being run too lean very well. Higher dollar engines make more power with less air, Ex. You can run a V-Spec. w/ small carb. restrictor and make the same power as the MACH with no restrictor. This would all pan out to better fuel economy. Hope it helps.

One benefit to a longer fuel line and filter is it gives more run time if you flip the buggy on the track. If your buggy is upside down the fuel pickup in the bottom of the tank cant pull fuel so it runs on what is left in the line until a marshal can get to it and flip it. Run times depend on tuning, surface, carb venturi, driving style, engine type. Pick up the book How to Tune a Nitro Engine and it will walk you through just about anything you need to do to your nitro engine.

I had one FLUKE motor that would run for 14 minutes on a tank. It was kickin @ 280, but just kept right on running. It was an old, worn out, yet modified Sportwerks 21 with a blue head. Even when the rod bushing let go, it would still run!

I get 9 1/2 minutes on a big track with my modded 427 and 10 1/2 minutes with a vspec and 9mm restrictor on the same track. I have a super smooth throttle figner so I can get alow more unritme than others. For example I dont blip everywhere, I drive it like a modified electric 2wd.

Depending on the track size and layout, the run time on a tank will vary, It is no problem for my indoor track to let a tank last 10-11 min. I usually come in for fuel around the 8-1/2 min. mark. On the outdoor track that is big and fast, I get about 8 min. on a tank, I come in for fuel at the 6 min. mark, my modded motor will go about 11 min on a tank on the outdoor track. Just my two cents on this!!!

I've got a stock 427 in a losi 8ight 1.0 RTR (hopped up better than a race roller at this point though) and get about 6-7 mins on our track. I don't blip either and throttle is pretty smooth but those motors do like to drink! I've read the blue head versions have a larger carb venturi than the orange head versions. I have it leaned out little but not too much. It sounds perfect and rips at wot and my temps to my knowledge have never gone above 223. My freind's losi truggy 2.0 runs about 9 mins on a novarossi motor. I too had that nitro mist/spit effect from the exhaust during break-in and before I leaned it out some, but haven't noticed it lately. 8 gallons down, and still going strong.
Also, if you haven't done so already.. peek inside your fuel tank. My 8ight had a removable piece inside that will give you more capacity/runtime if taken out.

If it was a good day my 427 1.0 would get just over 6 min running at 260, loved that temp. Always made sure I topped off right before the start, like someone said before remove the fuel tank capacity plug from inside the tank.
