Default 1/8 scale buggy brushless setup suggestion

so I just picked up a used hyper 9e on this forum. Now I am looking for a esc motor combo. I was wondering if anyone is using the chinese setups: hobbywing, ezrun or the speed passion. Was wondering what's decent but costs less than the mamba and tekin setups. If I am gonna spend the big bucks prob go with a tekin sensored rx8 combo. I am hoping to get something cheaper though as I got to get some other things to get it going as well.

any suggestions would be great
anyone used this. would the 80a esc not workout that well

I have gone the chinese route for some rc supplies over last couple years and been pleased. got some great chargers and batteries along with some smaller brushless setups.

I have that 80a esc and have no had an issue with it yet. I am only 2 months into owning it though. I am running a 7xl motor with a 20 tooth pinion in a hyper 8 with a 4s 30c lipo and the thing flies I would def suggest it. I also run a hobby king 150a esc in my one truggy with another 7xl and that thing is stupid fast with the 23 tooth pinion. Its honestly to fast for that truggy at about 35 mph or so anything past half throttle lifts the front up or gets squirly. Heres two videos both are of the 150a hobby king esc with a 4s lipo.

the 80a should be fine, as long as you dont go any higher than 4s and use the right gearing. if you want to go balls out with 6s then you will need the bigger setup.

i have an ofna 9.5 violator and the 80a system you have listed coming to me as we speak, and it was used like that before so i dont see how it couldn't be ok

i've only heard good things about that 150a esc, lol alot better than i have heard about the castle one thats big bucks......ahem....

I have the LRP SPX8 (2800kv) system in my Associated RC8e buggy and it's "ok". On 4S it's nice, lots of torque and decent high speeds. But wish it did better on 3S. Was debaiting on swapping the system out but dont know what for? I just traded my 500 heli for the buggy. My last 1/8 was a nitro so this type of brushless is new to me. I did see that the LRP system is $325 brand new, just thought I'd get more out of it. Or at least have the option of running 22.2v. I was just reading the reviews on the HobbyKing 150A esc and they all seem good and I love the price. Can someone post some links to a few decent motors?

I just went out and ran the buggy for 40 minutes and it really isn't as bad as I thought. I just got it on Monday and today was the first time I really got to spend some time adjusting things. It also came with a Airtronics M11, which took me a bit today to figure out and adjust the setting but LOVE it, only paid $125. For the 40 minutes I was running, it was on 2x11.1v 2650mah 25c w/50 burst. There the new Nano-Tech lipos from HobbyCity. But the buggy really come alive on the 7.4v 5200mah lipos that came with it. 14.8v is a happy medium. I think if I were to run 22.2v it would be over kill and would be insane. I'm going to order some more of the 11.1v 2650's and a few 5000mah 7.4v's soon. What kind of run times are you guys getting with you set up? I have the timmer set for 12 minutes but I'm sure I can get a lot more than that out of 5200,5300mah. My only concern is the temps from a long ass run.

I bought 4 Xerun systems from Kershaw Designs. They all work GREAT. They are the 80amp versions with the kershaw designs 7xl 2350kv motors. Cost under $150 a piece! I have one in an LST with a single speed conversion 22 tooth pinion, Losi Muggy with a 7t pinion I believe, put one in my buddies MBX5t and put the other in my Sportwerks Turmoil. Now my question for the buggies is what pinion should I be running in that. I just built the buggy yesterday. I started with a 17t pinion and it seems stupid fast but if thats the way its supposed to be, so be it.

I have a 150A hobby wing also , but now im thinking it was over kill. Iordered it because i figure i wouldnt have to buy new batteries and i could use my 3s as a 6s. But come to find out they are to small in Amps to do they. SO im waiting for my 2s 5200 30c ones before i runthe car.
When i buy the Deans plugs for the batterys i will try to find the adapter to run 2 3s together as a 3s, might be slower but there are a few small tracks around here where it should work out nice, At it will run forever.

A parallel connector is what you want to run 2x 11.1v at 11.1v but get a higher MAH. Running them in series will double the voltage but keep the MAH the same. I'm now going to be in the market for a new Motor and/or ESC for my Associated RC8e. Ever since that yellow wire came off when I was running, I can't keep the temps down. Before she was running 180-190 after 12 minutes. Now she's 240-260 after 7 minutes. I'll email Asocaiated to see if there is something they can do to help. But last time I called and left a messgae with the LRP Tech support, I never got a call back. So can you guys post a link for these $150 systems your talking about? Thanks, Joe

The Xerun combo with the 80A ESC for $155, is that the combo you guys are talking about? Here is a link I found. http://204.186.93.64/BrushlessMotorS...-Hobbywing.htm

The sad thing is my ESC is fine, it's just my motor that's shot. But a new LRP motor is $165 which I think is stupid. Plus my ESC/motor is sensored, so would that mean I would have to buy another sensored motor? Or can I just disconnect the plug from motor to ESC?

If the ESC can be used I might be able to get away with ordering a new motor from HobbyCity.com and calling it a day. Let me know what you guys think. I'd like to get a new motor asap.

I've had some bad exp with HobbyWing 1/8th scale products. They are not a quality product and I didn't find them lasting very long.

i have the xerun 150A and 120A and they are both awesome, i prefer them over my mamba max pro anyday (although the 120A only goes to 3S lipo, but the 150A goes to 6S) and they can both be found for just over 100 bucks including shipping

The 7xl is a 2370kv similar to the fegio and comes with a huge heat sink and fan.

Really, can't beat the price.

Dan at Kershaw ships usps priority mail and is a real cool guy to chat with. He responds to any questions and emails right away.

Oh yea, forgot to mention its the 4th one on the page. You can select which motor you want but I would suggest the 7xl because it covers power you need for most vehicles.

I have/had these in an E-maxx, LST, Turmoil, MBX5T and a Losi Muggy.

Hey guys really need some help here. I'm torn on what to do. My LRP SPX8 ESC is fine it's the motor thats shot. It's a sensored system but I'm unsure if I can run a sensorless motor and simply unplug the cable. I know a new motor is $165 vs. buying a HobbyWing system for $150 shipped. Was even considering going to Towerhobbies and getting a Mamba 2200kv system for $300 and using there "easy pay" option, plus there having a $30 off anything over $199.99 right now. So someone please chime in on what my easyest option is? Was also considering sendng the motor to LRP for fixing/replacing, but considering it's out of warrenty I'm sure I'll be spending the $165 for a new one anyway.

Well options are either new LRP motor or new system. Turns out with the sensor plug disconnected the ESC shuts down and starts blinking. Going to take a look in the manual to see if there is a setting that can be turned off to run a sensorless motor but I doubt it. Chances are I'll look for a deal on a new LRP 2500kv motor and cal it a day. No need to re-wire everything for a new system is my ESC is fine. Would have never killed the motor if the fan fins didn't break. At that point the motor over heated and the solider came undone on the yellow wire. I think when the motor hit 300 is when I screwed up the magnets. GO ME!!! LOL

Well I went to Towerhobbies and bought the 2800kv LRP motor for $164 but I had a $15 off coupon and used the "easy pay" option so I guess I'm good to go. Just didn't wanna spend that kind of money.
