New guy electronics question
 

Hi, everyone. I am brand new to the rc world, so hopefully you will be patient with me. I have done a great deal of research for my question everywhere I could think, and haven't been able to get the help I need, so if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I just traded a guy for a 1/8 nitro buggy, and am trying to get it running. The problem that I am having is that my transmitter and receiver are not interacting at all. Here is the information that I have and think that I understand.

The receiver is a Futaba Magnum Junior T2PCKA. The reciever is a Futaba R123F. The guy I got them from said he used them together. I got new crystals for them that I think are correct: FM 75.670 (Ch 74). seated properly; Tx in transmitter and Rx in receiver. Batteries are new in transmitter and charged in receiver.

Receiver is wired up correctly.

Rx and Tx are turned on and have power.

All wires look to be in the right place and plugged in all the way.

Antennae are fully extended.

I think that's it. This is probably a rookie mistake, but I can't figure this thing out. My hobby shop seems to think that help consists of me buying their latest and greatest, and I don't think that is necessary to get the car working. Don't be afraid to talk obvious things with me as this is all brand new to me. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

From Google it seems that it is an AM radio so you would need crystals for the AM band.
Edit-Further Gooling seems to say the reciever is FM, so they will not work together. :(
My advice for the moment is see if someone else replies here with further information, if not I will try to dig a little bit more later.

Anthoop is correct !
your radio is AM and the reciever is FM
Youll have to replace one or the other.....
Since youve got new FM crystals you could probally find a good used FM radio
on E-bay or LHS. You DONT need to replace everything though!

Well I guess that would be the reason! It's great to know what the problem is, but these are expensive little devils, aren't they? Thanks so much for your quick help! Now for advice...

Futaba has the magnum junior T2PEKA as the transmitter originally paired with my receiver. Is it necessary that I buy that one, or can I buy a different one? And if I can buy a different one, does it just need to be FM with the same frequency, etc? Again your help is appreciated.

Any 75 Mh FM radio will work.
I did a quick search on ebay and found a few at the $25 range
A couple of JR and futaba....they had recievers with them too.

So how is it runnin, and what kind of buggy do you have?
