n00b nitro tuning
 

I took a stab at tuning a nitro engine.

Winged it, failed. Got a easy to tune procedure and bam. Not perfect. Not a race tune. But it works for me! :cool:

The place to start is the idle gap. Rctech has a big post on engine tuning. I hope rctech will help Boyd Dawson

Idle gap should be around 0.5mm after an hour of runtime. May need to be 0.7-0.8mm for the first handful of tanks of fuel. Quality of engine plays a role. Lower quality engines need wider idle gap when new. Good engines will be 0.6mm to break in and 0.5’m after. Really good ones will go down to 0.4mm if you’re lucky. Proper idle gap makes tuning much easier. Too big an idle gap will result in erratic th I g and I consistent running. Use a cooler plug whenever possible; 30% nitro is not a requirement. 15-20% is just fine. 14% oil to break in (castor synthetic blend) with 11% being a good basher oil content. Good fuel goes a long way. I mix my own custom fuel at all times.
