Engine Break In
 

Well, I finally went to break in my O.S. 21 VZ-B engine yesterday and as expected the starter box would not turn it over. It started to at first but then just seized up. I heard that engine is very tight and man are they right. I was thinking of taking the glow plug out and putting some 3in1 oil in there and try to just spin it over like that without the glow plug in just to loosen it up. Will this hurt it? Thanks in advance.

the oil wont really help much. The piston and sleeve has a tight fit, (which is good and right) so if you have a heat gun heat the bottom of the cylinder head fins and the top of the engine case. that is where the piston goes to top dead center, and by heating it up some the sleeve will expand slightly and make it easier to turn over. dont scorch it, but heat it nice and evenly by moving the heat alot around that area. if you dont have the heat gun, you can try a good hot hair dryer. then try to start it on the box and then start driving the car right away. DON'T let it idle, I repeat DO NOT IDLE the engine. that will kill your expensive new engine. you will ruin the piston/sleeve fit if it runs too cool and rich by idling it that way, because it doesnt get up to operating temp and the piston/sleeve will wear away! follow these instructions on OS website on thread "how do I break in my rc car nitro engine."

Thanks, I really appreciate it. The guy's t the track were about to have me just let it idle on the stand for about 3 tanks. These are supposed to be guyu's who know what they are talking about. I'm just going to break it in just like O.S. says to do it. I would think they knew what they were talking about, they built the thing.lol

Also, if you cant start it still, loosen the glow plug about 1/4 or 1/2 of a turn. That should be tight enough to start it as long as you tighten it back right away. But make sure you get it up to operating temps fast! Also, regular blow dryers only heat up to about 130, so hold it on the crank case for about 5 minutes (maybe less) and that should help a bit (if I cant start my engine that always helps).
