how do i unflood an engine?
 

i think something is wrong with my car because it is so slow right now my non hobby other electric rc car can even beat it in drag race.i think that my engine is flooded because i turned off the engine by putting my finger on the air filter and stopping it like that everytime. i also dont know how to unflood an engine.[sm=confused.gif]
i have no clue how to fix this problem.

any tips or anything will be helpful.

Once your engine is started you don't have to worry about it being flooded. It's then referred to as being rich(too much gas). Turn your HSN clockwise 1/8 turn at a time until it runs a little stronger. If your engine is flooded while trying to start, it will start to turn over hard. To fix this remove the glow plug and turn the car upside down and crank the engine a few times.

No need to remove the plug or turn the car upside down. Simply crack the plug seal and hit the bumpbox a couple of times. Do hold a rag over the top of the engine unless you like a nice nitro shower.

It sounds to me like your Nitro engine is running rich. Tuning a Nitro Engine is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for new people. There are volumes of posts on the subject. If you use the forum search feature and look for "Engine Tuning" you should find tons.

hi i just read your post and you said you stop it by putting your finger over the air filter this sucks more fule into the engine try stalling it by putting your finger over the exaust

Whoa! Hold up, don't put plug the air filter and don't plug the exhaust. Plugging the exhaust only chokes the engine (making it stall and eventually die faster) and using the air filter will make it way too rich. By stopping the flywheel with your shoe, no choking will happen and the air/fuel mixture will stay the same as it stalls. After you stop it, start it again one last time and let it run out the rest of the fuel that's in the engine. Make sure you apply a few drops of after run oil when you're done.

Hi.

When I was starting out I was told not to pinch/plug the air filter, as it is likely that it would draw some dirt into the carb.

I just pinch the fuel line too.

ok stop the flywheel big big big no no that stalls it and makes your engine die 2 times as fast just plug the pipe iy might choke it but doesn`t make the egine die faster i know that i`m avet of those for 20 years plus.

well ive heared alot of ways to stop and why not to use em...

ive heared stoping the flyweel is fine unless you having a runaway, but if its at idle it should be fine

i think taking the air filter off and covering it would be best to do in a runaway, getting a little dirt in the carb that you can clean out is better than having an engine run at high rpms, not moving for a long time.

pinching the fuel line will work if its at idle but if its high rpm then the car will run really lean and could cause serious engine damage

when you cover the exhaust it puts alot of backpressure into the fuel tank causing a lot of fuel going through the lines in the the engine, then when there is alot of fuel the engine cant combust and cant compress the fuel so it could car a connecting rod to bend or somthing else similair.
