Starter Box

My Hyper 21 8 port is a pain in the butt to start and its only had one tank through and PS broke. My question is will the MultiStart Starter Box by OFNA with two 7.2volt batteries in start my Hyper 21?If not whats a starter box that will that use two 7.2volt batteries?

RE: Starter Box

Look for one of the Ofna boxes with a single Hi Torque motor as opposed to one with the two smaller 550 motors. I just picked up an Ofna chrome top box (part # 10250) last weekend and that thing cranked over a brand new Hyper .21 8 port race engine without even trying. The Chrome top uses a 12V gell cell battery (15.00 at Tower) instead of the stick packs however it is way more powerful than the dual motor boxes.

If cash is an issue, the Chrome Top comes with wiring so you can attach it directly to your cars battery and run it off that. I also have one of the Ofna True Start boxes and it struggles with the 8 port.

RE: Starter Box

I was just looking at the MultiStart and it has a 775 in it.

RE: Starter Box

The 775 is still a relatively small motor by comparison however, I'm sure with a little effort, it will get the job done.

RE: Starter Box

did u say that Truestart with 12v motor has a hook up for two 7.2's?(I'm low on cash and I already have two 7.2s thats why I want something)If not I will most likely get the MultiStart...

RE: Starter Box

My True start has the 2 550 motors and is wired for a 12V battery however it can also be wired to work with the two stick packs. I wouldn't recommend the True start for a buggy however as it's damn near impossible to line the flywheel up with the starter wheel. It's more of a 1/10 box than a 1/8 box.

RE: Starter Box

I've have the Ofna chrome top box and it works ok. I just hate that stinking 12v battery. It is a pain to charge (takes forever) and weighs a ton. I converted it where I could run it from three sources (two 7.2 sticks, 12v gel cell or external 12v. It still worked ok, but the two 7.2's wouldnt turn over a cold engine and defintely not a new one.

Anyway, I just bought the Mugen Box and there is no comparison between this box and the Ofna one. The Mugen is smaller, lighter, more torque, and has a much better fit and finish. It runs off 2 7.2 sticks as well. It's pretty much a no brainer, the Mugen box kicks the Ofnas AZZ.

Well I dont have anything to add. I think this might be my trouble with my new OS RG (P)... I cant get it to start with out killing my fingers. I looked at the chrome top OFNA starter today, they guy at the LHS said it was one of the best. $80 is looking more and more worth it considering my fingers are sore as hell.

I had trouble starting my new novarossi chrono 21 with an ofna chrome top with a 12v gel cell. But then I hooked it up to my car battery and it started no problem. So if you can wire your box for gel cell and car battery.

I am no expert but i have just had to run in my new Hyper 7 and from all the post´s i read and trouble i had getting it started i would definatly reccomend you plug it into the car battery to get the engine turning first few times! once i did that i had no problems!

I have one of those 2x55o ofna starter boxes and i used to use two 7.2V stick packs for it but it's just sooo weak.
My brother has one with the single 750 motor and it's VERY good choice for any engine.

What i want to know though is whether i can use instead of two 7.2V packs...two 8.4v packs and increase voltage on the 2x550 starter box.
Won't this increase the torque?
The time that these motor will have to work on that high voltage isn't much to thing that they might get toasted right?

RE: Starter Box

not too sure about that man ...i`m kinda new to starter boxes...but i`m thinking that you should bump up on the wire gauge that your using , if your gonna increase to voltage...that`s just my guess

Maybe you needed to be shown how dumb you were being.

RE: Starter Box

well when you spend $80 bucks on something and you don`t want to take a chance on messing it up , because the directions are wrong , and if you follow their directions , the box will spark, and ruin the motor. it`s best to ask...but even a child knows that red is pos..and black is neg...but again over there across the pound , your wiring is different ...lmao[sm=lol.gif]...so if you don`t have anythig that can truely help a beginner , or just someone that has a tech question, no matter how simple, then just don`t post

Da Smak 11-03-2007 05:08 PM

RE: Starter Box

I posted the only way the answer could be answered, if you already knew it, then why ask? There's no trick to it.

CEN_BERD 11-03-2007 05:34 PM

RE: Starter Box

probably because the directions that comes with the box are wrong... it will spark if you follow their instructions, and ruin the swith and motor...so i wanted to know from someone who has the box and wired it right , with more experience than i have, because i`m new with starter boxes with switches ...i put enough money into my Cen Matrix...the motor is crap...bought a new novarossi and just want to get it going before the weather turns here..so there is more to it than just pos and neg...so thanks for all your help....by the way...don`t you have any other hobbies to tend to?...like blowing a bag pipe?[sm=lol.gif]...not to be rude or anything...but in my experience , there`s always a trick or two to everything

Da Smak 11-03-2007 08:09 PM

RE: Starter Box

We dont all blow on bagpipes and hunt haggis round here, some of us keep the most advanced aircraft in the world upin the air. Now if you follow the instructions properly it will not short, but as with all old style motors, there will be a spark when they start.

RE: Starter Box

If you buy the box from your LHS they should have no problems wiring it for you. Just let them Know how you want it set up.

RE: Starter Box

thanks guy`s ...if i had a LHS i would of not posted...and if spark would of not been a factor, seeing how nitro fuel is very flamable. around here things don`t spark unexpectedly.. if they`re are done right.. as for air superiority?...some things wrong as for air superiority? the united kingdom would of had an end to alot of the crap that`s going down...just like WE stoped Enland from speaking German...but this is a racing forum...and USA is still winning...well better than most![:@] as for that?...i would still hate to blow a pipe..rather than clean one....and grow yard bird as a ocputation or lamb....go figure...p.s. get yer ass on the race track ! then u can get off your pad...maybe pop a mydol? Maybe you need to be shown how much of an arrogant @$$ you are .

I got him squared away since you don`t have the decency to explain it to him . Not everybody is a know it all genius like you .

RE: Starter Box

If you want I can send you a photo of my box wiring. It is set up to run off of twelve volt, but if you just splice in a set of 7.2 pig tails after the on off switch. Just before the ends for the twelve volt connectors, you would be able to run all set ups.

Dawman 11-03-2007 11:48 PM

RE: Starter Box

I drew out the wiring for him and he is connecting it to a 12v car battery .
