Bogging?

alright guys... help is appreciated. :D My engine was bogging out on low end when i'd punch the throttle yesterday at the track, and i could not figure out why. I checked all my connections and idle and everything..... but do not know why. There were even times when it would cut out. Once happened to be over the triple... and sent me end over end. Any ideas?

How did it sound like? Did you check if the low speed needle is set good? How about putting it on factory settings, and start tuning from there.

Maybe you know better, but sounds like its either too lean or too rich (low end needle). Try adjusting that.

Then check fuel lines, carb for leaks.. glow plug... the gas etc...

Just because the engine is running doesnt mean the glow plug is good, too me a while to figure that out :D

Yea the LSN is too lean or two rich. when idling is it loading up after a few seconds than bogging out the hole when you punch it? if so its too rich. If screaming out the hole and dying sometimes its too lean...and it could also be a bad glow plug too.

thanks guys.... i will check the lsn later today. I am going to reset the buggy to standard settings... and then change the plug. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

You should only change one thing at a time cause you will never know which was you problem

How do you know if your carb is leaking .... I have a new RB S7II (about 1/2 gallon through) and when I prime her (holding finger over the exhaust) some fuel leaks out the bottom (small traces on the starter wheel) by the clutch bell. She runs damn well though.

Bogging

If the bogging is associated with overheating then it is likely due to a cerebration problem. However, It could be other than the needle setting. Check the fuel line; Check the filter; check the tank lid? Check for air leaks at the engine mounting hole. If you throw it out on the track and initially there is no bogging and then slowly if starts to overheat and then starts to bog. Then it is most likely the carburetor. However, other problems will give you the bogging symptom.

If the motor bogs from the “get-go”; even before it heated-up, Then remove the clutch bell and check the clutch. Are the springs OK? Are the spring(s) broken? Are the shoe(s) dragging on the Clutch bell? Are the shoes in backwards (leading instead of trailing)?

Too much brake drag?
Binding in the driveline?
Wheels scraping on the rear camber link?
Gear mesh too tight?
Geared too Tall?

These little glow engines don’t start to develop horsepower until they wind-up into the their upper end of the RPM range. Any drag or hang-up down low will give you the Bog.

RE: Bogging?

it sounds like a lean bog!
the WS7II's do this really badly!
you have to run em lean on the top & rich on the bottom to cure it;)
leave your top end at first & just richen the bottom end a bit;)
you'll have to drive the car to test it as it will be OK on the box just crap after a lap or two!
you definitely need to drive it to tune this out;)

RE: Bogging?

that is what is was doing! it was awesome on the box but crap as soon as it hit the dirt. That sounds more like what i need to do. Thanks Adam. :D
