My Hyper 7 Pro

Well Im fixing up my Hyper 7 Pro to run and I ran into a few things.

First lemme ask for the center diff:
Normal(have)
THORSON(have)
Spider
Whats the diffrence between these?

I run royal purple bearing grease in all diffs, is that bad? everything I put it in, it runs smoother in

I also was having tuning problems and i found a crack in my tank.. ordered a new one
But I wanna ask.. When I start trhe car up... Its sluggy for about 30 seconds, Like i hit full thorottle and it idles down and just keeps moaning untill i ween it to full thorottle then it runs good. Also I have all the low end I can ask for but top end seems to hit a barrier and wont rev anymore(I know its not the max) It just hits its barrier and then when i come off it wants to stall out? To lean?
Ill have to ask again when i get my take, air leak problem solved see if its doing it.

I also ordered the CNC front knuckles from Tower hobbies.... cant wait to get those in.

Thanks

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Diffs diffs diffs
The standard and the spider work the same just the spider has six mesh gears instead of the 4 that are in the standard diff. they work by transferring the power to the wheel that is spinning to keep the axle flat

the "Torsen" which stands for Torque sensing works the opposite way, it transfers power to the wheel that has traction. Some guys like to use it in the center, not me

I run all standard diffs 5-7-1 silicon oil front-center-rear
Some guys use grease in the rear too, but never in the front or center.

The tanks issue could be the cause of you engine problems, It's a good Idea to put the new tank in and re-tune the engine, maybe even starting at the factory settings.

The CNC knuckle are a good call, stock ones will let you down sooner or later

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

WEll i was having problems with the stock bottom screw on the knuckles... I ended up taking a larger thread larger D screw and red locktiting it up their so i May be dremmeling it out.

I have the thorons but ill leave it out. Whats the advantage of running a liquid oil in the diffs instead of a heavry grease... Royal purple is extremly good stuff(acutally Oakwood hospital, where my dad works, had a demo of it...its like 4x more expensive than regular oil. The guy said try it in his truck for 5,000 miles then drain and refill then run it for 15K miles. We are at 11K and the oil is still better than most oils)

I run those in all my diffs and never seen a problem, its like normal grease. It heats up and is almost frictionless and keeps them well lubed, So wahts wrong with using that? Too much drag on the system?

do you recomend 5000 wt in the back 7K center and 1K in the front? WHy such a diffrence?

I cant find any diagram to tune my engine so i dont knwo what stock is. I took the 0-1 BP guide which says 3 1/2 out high end and 11ish out for low end. Im 2 1/2 out high end to and 6 out for low end to get it to even start and im still blowing smoke out at low end... I gotta see what that new tank will do.

Also how does a diff know what wheel has traction. Hummers have a computer monitering wheel slip, I would find it hard to believe that a mechanical operation would be accurate. + when your on soft dirt your tires will slip anyways and when you trasnfer power to a traction wheel you increase the chance of breaking that one lose... sounda lame to me.

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

The diff Oil acts like that limited slip system
the thicker the oil the less slipage
the thicker the oil the more the power is transfered to both wheels or in the case of the center diff both axles.

No, 5k front, 7k center, 1k or grease in the rear.
The thick oil in the front helps the car "tractor" or pull it's way through the turns
The rear you want loose, so it diffs easy, this keeps the car from spinning out to easy

If you're just bashing around the Grease is fine,

What engine do you have in the car?

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

I Have a .21 Picco/Ofna 0-1

Not the BP the 0-1

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Well then greast in the C/F is fine. Ill rebuild the rear later with 1K diff oil. Right now as we speak im doing the mod that [link=http://www.twf8.ws/new/tech/car/hobao/hyper7/hyper7build/hyper7index.html]this site[/link] about shocks... Im drilling out the pistons a little bit bigger for better oil selections

Cloud15x 07-11-2004 06:25 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Well i got my shocks rebuilt for the time being---

IS Ofna 5000 wt diff oil like 50 wt shock oil? I though that was it, but it was about 10x thicker than the 40 i put all around. I am going to go order soon 10 20 25 30 35 and 40 wt shock oil.

Also sat the engine way back so it wont crack my next tank.
Thorson center diff has 1 vote for a no go: any more votes?

RUnning a Futaba S3003 thor/break servo and a FMA S3501M for steering: Should I upgrade steering and put the FMA on thor/break or upgrade both? If so which servos for what? Not looking to spend 200+ on servos

scale only 4 me 07-11-2004 08:37 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

10X thicker? it's 100X thicker
If you drilled out the pistons I'd use nothing less than 35w shock oil

Diff oil for Diffs and shock oil for shocks, those things must be rock hard with that 5k in there

For racing
That FMA servo is plenty fast but you really want a servo that has 100in/oz of torque or more, and as fast as you can get. It would be good for the throttle/brake
For bashing you'll be fine with what you have

A decent steering servo will cost from $80-$120

Cloud15x 07-11-2004 08:58 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Yah with that 5000 wt it was rock hard.'

120 isnt bad for 1 servo, but i didnt wanna replace both, good to know i can use my FMA for thor/break

any suggestions? for servos
*what i found*:
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTT13&P=ML]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTT13&P=ML[/link]

I really like the speed of the 2nd one but I dont know if 125 oz of torque is enough

and shock wt? 40 rear 35 fronts or what?
I think im going to order 30-50 in increments of 5 for shock oil just to have

im going to go to towerhobbies and look and ill edit and post links

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Either servo will work great

I run a Futaba 9450s, they have been discontimued, but this is there replacement
plenty good with a 6volt pack, and less money :D
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCTS2&P=C

I run 40w front, 35w rear w/stock pistons

Go fast, don't forget to turn;)

Cloud15x 07-11-2004 10:25 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Not that big of a diffrence, ill get the super fast one, cant hurt right? [>:]

sounds good for shock oil, may run 45rears 40 fronts.... if ur runing 40/35s with stock pistions

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

DO i have to have a special RX to run digital servos or waht?

scale only 4 me 07-11-2004 11:40 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Nope
I use a Hitec Lynx 3d Tx with standard DCX RXs

Cloud15x 07-15-2004 07:57 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Well I got my parts in:
New tank has a cut out i guess for better engine mounting ++

Got a 1200 Team Orion NiMH to see if i could get rid of servo twitching (had 600 Nicad Team Orion) No luck - but i dont mind, got a better battery

Got purple (med) springs (havent installed-doing later on tonight)

retuned engine to stock
Tried to fire and my stupid bump is always dead and i was PI$$3D off cuz its always dead(stupid craftsman charger)
I was so mad I modded the clamps to a clip to go onto my profet plus charger(Not the best buy not extremly bad) threw it at 4 amps and bam... its working fast now !!

Tmr is my step dads bday and I am out of fuel but I am sitll gonna try to run the last tank through it
(gotta figure out if my hobby shop carries 30% nitro)

Cloud15x 07-15-2004 08:37 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

well im going to upgrade to 2x of these servos
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDAM5&P=7
unless someone else can give me a link to a faster thorottle servo.

Since im going to do that I mise well get a new TX and RX, Im looking to spend about 400 total so the servos are going to totale about 200, is their any good 2 channel TX/rx out their or do the good ones only come in 3+ channel(Pistol pref)

Or is a Futaba Maginum JR a good enough tx(doubtful)

True but if one wheel on the comes totally loose then none of the power is transfered. That is why we never run them in the rear.

Also it is a totally different driving style that is needed to coppe with them. Fortunately I find it easier with them.

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

where do you run them?
Front? or center?

I have one in the center in my H7 truggy that I took out of mt Dominator, and it seams "jerky"

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

I wondered what diffs they used in the ford focus RS now i know, they use torsens:D

Cloud15x 07-17-2004 03:35 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

So i went out and ran it and this thing is fricking fast..... I had to tighten up the seal on the gas tank, redo all the fuel lines and the boost chamber line and it keeps running better.

I was jumping my speed bumps, but I gotta get 50-60 wt oil because it bottoms out jumping the speed bumps, but the suspension is soo smooth.

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Who makes some upgrade parts for hyper7 pros? like Ti shock towers, bigger, better shocks(like the LST :))

Cloud15x 07-18-2004 01:03 AM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

I was also wondering..... Would it be adventagous to maybe get a 6 cell hump pack or is that too many volts for a reciver pack.... thinking of 3300's

scale only 4 me 07-18-2004 02:57 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

You'll burn the servos up with more than a 5 cell pack unless you run a voltage regulator

PCR (Paul Collman Racing) makes so sweet shock towers, etc http://www.nitrohouse.com/hyper_7_pcr.htm

mk999 07-18-2004 03:34 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

is it just me or do those shock towers just look flimsy[&:]

Cloud15x 07-18-2004 04:28 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Thats pretty expensive stuff to look that snappy.... can anyone testify that they are strong?

scale only 4 me 07-18-2004 05:56 PM

RE: My Hyper 7 Pro

Those PCR part are bling$ bling$ expensive
but the towers that come withthe PCR Pro kit are stronger, and stil very nice looking
http://www.nitrohouse.com/hyper_7_pcr_pro.htm
those will be the next hop up for mine, as soon as I figure out the part#s
