Hyper Back Plate
Hi guys,
looks like i might invest in a starter box after grahama89 and skyline350GT suggestions. just a couple of quick ones. My hyper 8 port is the turbo version that has that little fan in it. By fitting the back plate i have to remove that turbo fan from the unit wont that reduce the performance of the motor doing that? I understand by removing the pull start u get slight better performance but in the is case the turbo fan will have to be removed also. this is the starter box i can get for decent price from my LHS http://www.q-world.com.tw/pro-2-1.htm model #10246 which seems quite good, any thoughts on this? It can use 7.2v or 12v battery which should i go for? many thanks for your time. |
RE: Hyper Back Plate
I've done it to all 3 of the hyper 21 engines I've had.
It increases the performace if anything. I don't know what that "Turbo" fan is designed for, but my engine all seamed to run better without it. You can leave the pull start on if you want, and still use the statrter box The box you're looking at is really better for 1/10th scale cars and truck, But many guys use them without problems after an engine is broken in. I prefer to use the Ofna "True start" box for my 1/8th scales and Monster trucks that use .21s. You'll find that smaller box difficult to use when breaking in a new .21 size engine. Good luck |

thanks for the info scale much appreciated :P

RE: Hyper Back Plate
The turbo fan is there to look nice and act as a support for the one way bearing. The reason there is a performance hike is because you have got rid of a massive air leak where the hex shaft goes in. Just be careful not to go too lean as these cranks will shear the pins off due to the loss of support from the turbofan.
I'd get that LC 2002 and make my own box. The other 2 are fine but less powerfull. Definately 12V. It's cheaper. |
RE: Hyper Back Plate
thanks graham u seem to know them hypers thats for sure.
have you got any pics of what u mean about the crank shearing the pins off? thanks again |
RE: Hyper Back Plate
I'll get some done.

RE: Hyper Back Plate
I used to always say go start box etc etc -- Because I hate pull starts. Now that I have the roto start, that is my prefered method. My Hyper21 has more power than my Force 25. But since they dont have a roto start plate and I dont want to carry the starter box and battery (it gets heavy) I use the Force 25 with roto start instead of the Hyper 21.
Just my 2cents. |
