Mayhem CVD damage...
For those of you that may or may not know about the on going problems with the LST CVD's. An how they are prone to breakage....check it out...
Not long after I got my LST I got a Sportwerks Mayhem. Which is also owned by Horizon Hobbies, as well as the LST an Losi. With that being said, I noticed the LST and the Mayhem had a few minor things in common, that could even be switched out with one another....But as we all know Misery loves company, and the same WEAK CVD's that come with the LST are also on the Mayhem. The only difference between the two are the lenght and the axel that is on the end.....And Yup....You guessed it...the WEAK CVD's that are breaking on the LST are now BREAKING on my Mayhem....But unlike the LST, where the CVD's can be bought in seperate parts. On the Mayhem it can only be bought as an entire CVD shaft with the included axel, which is 40 dollars a pair....HOLY CRAP....You better beleive first thing Monday morning I will be on the Horn with Horizon asking them when they are gonna send me some more 40 dollar CVD's that are gonna keep on breaking just like in the LST. What In The World!! is going on over at Horizon they need to get off their butt's and make them new CVD's. All we seem to keep hearing is that they know about the problem and its being working on...AAAAARRRRRHHHHH http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B634%...83%3C%3Aot1lsi http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B634%...3A6%3B72ot1lsi |
RE: Mayhem CVD damage...
Exactly the same crap happened to me today in my Inferno K2
Front CVD broke off. Put a nice damper in my weekend plans. I better get mine replaced under warranty or i'm going to puke, since i had the K2 only for 1 week sofar. I'm still in the break in procedure of the engine for christ sake. Thomas |
RE: Mayhem CVD damage...
My lord! You should have posted these pictures in the buggy horror thread!! That is a sight to see!
I dont know what you did to your Mayhem, but I have trashed my buggy every way possible and only things I replaced are my front and rear shock towers. That is surprising since I am trying to become a good racer as quickly as I can! Also, I must note that Team Losi is not part of the Sportwerks sub-division of Horizon Hobby. Team Losi and Sportwerks do use alot of the same stuff, but they are not the same. John Adams can better shed light about Sportwerks. |
RE: Mayhem CVD damage...
I would personally say that the Sportwerks buggy is one of the Toughest buggy's that I have seen race at my local track. So far I am the only one with the Sportwerks there, Many have made several comment's about how Tough it is and how competive it is. I also have chipped my cvd (pic below) about 2 weeks ago and have been racing with it like that ever since, still hasn't broke. After our Championship races this weekend we had a big air contest, I jumped 5 times getting atleast 50+ feet in the air and Didn't Break anything! Everyone there was amazed it was still in one piece and still driving as good,as it was in the races when we were done.

RE: Mayhem CVD damage...
OK I have looked into the cause of this on a mates Mayhem. It appears that if you have the shocks on the inboard most hole on the lower A arm and the lowest outside hole on the tower then it is possibly to get to much suspension travel. Now this allows to much movement in the CVA joint allowing the shaft to rub on the hub, heat up and then crack/chip.
A fix we thought of would be to fit Hyper 7 Uni shafts, thus eliminating the travel limitations. Or just restrict your droop a bit more. |
RE: Mayhem CVD damage...
Or just buy a Hyper 7 Pro-R! LOL!! :D
j/k |

Noreaga, I did get a reaction from the person I was expecting most. :D I see you are quite diligent in your ways of observation!
Horizon Hobby/Sportwerks is very good on customer support. I'd expect nothing less than excellent service from them! |
