Engine Preventive Maintenance.
Hello Everyone,
My Engine (V-Spec) has now reached 6 gallons. I would like to know what sort of preventive maintenance I could do to ensure long engine life and prevent a failure when I need it. The engine is still running very well and I put after run oil in it after every session. Some have suggested I change the conrod already. I changed conrods after the break-in process. |
RE: Engine Preventive Maintenance.
um i think there is nothing really that you can do about it other than get a spare motor. the v-spec isn't an overly exspensive motor so i would say once you get to about 8-9 gallons then get a new motor it will cost only a little less to replace all the internals so why not go the extra yard. but you could sell your motor now and gain money and buy a new one. there is no harm in doing that as long as you say what it has done etc.

Isn't the v-spec $300?

RE: Engine Preventive Maintenance.
yeh it is that is a reasonably cheap high end competition motor. and from what i heard it is a bargin for 300

RE: Engine Preventive Maintenance.
For a 3port engine, it's pretty amazing. I don't feel like I'm at the losing end in terms of engine choice. I can still keep up with those RBs, Nova's and JPRacing engined buggies I race with.
I went ahead and just changed the conrod. Like I said, I don't wanna wait for a catastrophe. I piston sleeve had no scoring at all and all I had to do was polish the piston crown to remove some of the burned up grit on it. I just came back from the track and the engine is still in great condition. A broken conrod is so unpredictable in terms of the damage it can cause so spending the 20 bucks at least gives me piece of mind for another 6 gallons. |

i hope you aren't axpecting it to do 12gallons without lossing alot of pinch and running like crap.

I can wish can't I?!?
He he he... just kidding. I hope it will at least NOT throw a rod and take out more stuff than I want to. I've already asked the LHS to order a V-spec for the XB8. Maybe I'll order 2 just in case. That's why I don't wanna go and put down money on European engines... they are priced ok, but the parts are ridiculously expensive. |
