Nitro Fuel Survey

Just curious; what Nitro content you regularly run in your .21 engines? If you have a preferred brand let's hear about that too.

For those of you that run above 20% Nitro in your engines, do you shim the cylinder head to lower compression? If so by how much?

viper463 12-10-2004 08:51 PM

RE: Nitro Fuel Survey

I run 30% Maxy's and I run 2 shims total. I like it so much that I started selling the fuel. Very consistant blends. I have also run Byrons and It is just as good but I still use maxy's because it's easier to see in the fuel tank.

I'll throw out another question regarding fuel selection, this time as it relates to engine break-in.

I was in an RC specialty shop yesterday, I say specialty because the only products they sell are High Performance RC engines and engine parts, they also provide engine break-in and dyno services. These folks claim to use a specialty "in-house" blended fuel for break-in; they were guarded regarding exact details of the fuel, stating the blend would be altered based upon engine selection. The basic gist was this, they will use a lower than normal, normal being what you ultimately plan on running, nitro content fuel mixed with additional lubricants. They claim their break-in service yields considerably longer service life, up to 6-8 gallons full-on racing use.

Personally I’ve not seen an engine manufacturer’s recommendation for the use of special fuel blends or lower nitro content fuel for break-in; however I have seen the opposite, i.e. break-in the engine with the same nitro content you plan to use after break-in.

How many of you use a different blend or nitro content fuel for break-in?

i break em in on the fuel i always run!
Elite Power 25%[8D]

bit of a pain to get & its a UK fuel only but all the 1/8 onroad boys use it as its supplied by the UK's main Serpent dealer;)

8% oil apparently but i don't know if its castor or synthetic?

all i know is, whenever i strip an engine its got a nice coating of oil in all the right places & my engines pretty much never cut & usually run faster & last longer than the same engines used by friends on different fuels:D

see what the onroad boys are running at your local big track & try some of their fuel;)
gotta be worth a try:D

SKYLINE350GT Where do you get Maxy's 25%? I can find 20% or 30%, but nothing in 25%.

I just call Maxy and have him blend up some for me. Call him up and see if he'll do the same for you- I don't see why he wouldn't. www.maxysfuel.com

Well that's customer service!:D
Is there a required minimum quantity buy, for a custom fuel blend?

Do you know the lubrication blend for "Car Team Edition" fuel, i.e. percentage Castor Oil vs. Synthetic Oil, Maxy's website provides that information for all fuels except Car Team Edition? Thanks.

You'd have to ask Mario ( at Maxy's) for the quantity. I'm not 100% sure on Maxy's lub breakdown- but it's good stuff.

I'm currently running trinity 20%. I don't like it much since this is made by WC(wild cat) and it's basicly the same fuel. I've ran BT(blue thunder)20% and O'donnel 30% rtr(bought the wrong fuel) and 30% race back when I raced 1/8th on-road. I would like to try sidewinder or white lightning, but I can't find a shop that carries it locally.

Trinity Monster Horsepower is Awesome fuel. But then again- so Is Maxy's. I run them both.
