Modding an engine
I have read lots of posts that mention "have then engine modded", do some work to the engine" These have been in response to posts about new engines and making there buggy faster. So what do you mean by "modding" I assume work with the ports. Is that about all that can be done to an engine. I understand tuning and actually am quite good at it. I'm just wondering what work can be done to an engine. Is there some info on the net somewhere about it. I done some searches, but I don't guess I can some up with the right keywords to get what I want. Thanks,

RE: Modding an engine
really if you want one modded leave it up to the pro's to do it. me myself think the P5 for instance is fine stock. i have a RB MODS S7 and dont even run it. i keep putting the P5 back in. really there isnt much that will keep up w/ this motor.

RE: Modding an engine
having engines modded is a personal preferance. I mod engines for a living and i find some engines respond to mods better than others.. So having said that there are a few things to do before you go and mod an engine..
Find best combo with the follownf for your engine.. Fuel Plug Pipe Carb Car set up.. Cut the weight back on the car as much as possible.. youll be supprised how much a few grams can make. Then if thats not enough you can start to mod the engine.. i find it gives smoother performance, better temps, more usable power band... What ZZMAN was saying about the P5 is true , great engine as stock.. not much to be done to that engine but you can improve the top end in it with a little port timing change.. see it all depends on what you want, the P5 is sensational on short to med tracks, here is a link to an introduction in mods.. its a little dated but will keep you interested for about another 10 mins .. lol http://www.rcnitro.com/rn/articles/nitroengines6.asp |
