s3 chassis

was whanting to know if anybody is useing the new ttr flat chassis conversion yet? ive heard they are suppose to free up the buggy a little i havent ran my s3 yet but my buddy has one and ive ran it a little our tracks are medium bumpy. his handels good but to me seems alittle bouncey this could also be shocks oils and so forth but i read the article in extreme rc mag today and they did nothing short of bad mouth the ttr s3. i kind of have mixed feelings about extreme mags. words. they pretty much said the ttr doesent handle. well we were at the kyosho challange a few weeks ago and wacthed taylor james stink up the place with his ttr s3. took home 1st in the amain. but when we stroled through the pit area i whanted to ask if he was useing the flatt chassis but he always looked busey and i never got real close enough to see it. kind of wanted some feed back on the flat chassis and extremes words on the ttr if anybody has read it yet. oh you kyosho guys will like the outcome of the test.

RE: s3 chassis

all the UK team drivers got their flat chassis just before first practice at the Euros in France where they all rushed to fit them & they have all said it has improved their cars handling!
apart from around the flywheel to give clearance for the starter wheel i didn't see any major grinding going on[:-]

RE: s3 chassis

i did read on amains web that you might have to grind the back for the a arms if you can post pics that would be awsome!!!

RE: s3 chassis

I just replaced my delta box with another delta box. If A-main hobbies had it in stock, I probably would've got the flat instead but oh well, I couldn't wait. My opinion is...unless your a hardcore racer, the deltabox is fine. the cost is double the delta box and I'd rather spend the money on the red goodies and when I got really good at driving... then MAYBE I would upgrade. just my 2 cents. I give mad props to A-main!!! 300.00 worth of S3 parts at my Door in 3 days from 3000 miles away! Everything was instock!! except the flat chassis...LOL

RE: s3 chassis

I also read somewhere about magazines doing tests on cars...Alot of times the people that do the tests have no clue about stuff. they slap a kit together drop it on the ground and run it. and if they don't like it...they flame it! They probably didn't make any set-up changes to correct what they call a NON-HANDLING car for the conditions they were running it in. I have learned not to believe what the mags say. But I do see alot of S3's finishing in the front of the pack.:D

RE: s3 chassis

that flat chassis looks like it may make the wheel base a little longer thanks for the pics showtime and thanks for the info eb4 im gonna run my s3 the way i have it set up now and mabey later down the road ill swap the chassis if i feel i need to. my buddy that i sometimes go racing with has been racing for 15 years and has been to some of the bigger races around the country and he said the same dont listen to the mags. he said its all marketing propaganda and they go by who sold the most cars that year and so forth. he told me to drive some different cars and buy the one that fells good to you. makes sence. i have drove a mayhem wich felt heavy to me and the ofna x1cr just plain didnt like me. and at the time we couldnt get parts for kyosho so my other buddy wouldnt let me try his 777 so thats why i ended up with a ttr s3. it was the easiest kit ive ever assembled!:D[8D]

New, Revolutionary, A field leader. THE T-REX CHASSIS. So good we replaced it with a flat one. Now the only new innovation is the triple mounted upper A arm with shock through. Still nice buggies though.

The delta box version is coming, it was cheaper to use a flat chassis for the development work...

:p

what he means is there is an extruded T-REX version of the longer chassis coming out soon, similar construction to the std chassis but longer like the new flat chassis!

perhaps you were too busy "trying" to sound clever to realise that

RE: s3 chassis

PMSL, Jees you just dont seem to see the problem with the T-Rex style chassis do you?

IT@S TOO RIGID, that is why the center braces are cracking and the box section is failing so often. The chassis is so cheap because if they charged any more for it then people would bin the S3 rather than fix it, in fact many folks are spliting from this plate-eater and moving back to more forgiving buggies or even going for some of the new kids on the block (Jammin or RD).

Lengthening the T-rex will just put more stress on the center braces and result in a far quicker failure rate. My personal opinion is that if you have a TTR S3, get the flat chassis conversion and stick with it.

Gali, grow up and I'll see you in Cyprus. I'm off on a camping holiday there in 10 days with my TRAILER you see.

Once again, you have quoted one or two incidents of the chassis breaking in America on their tracks with huge jumps... You fail to even mention that there is now a TTR one piece centre diff brace to cure that....

So who are all these drivers dropping the S3 then?

How has your S3 been running...

Oh sorry you havent got one, so you know nothing other than what you have trawled from a few internet forums...

Personal opinion based on nothing other than hearsay.... you know better than people who own and run the buggy...

Ah well... you are the expert....

Ignore me everyone, the incredibly mature Alex is the expert in everything 1/8th off road...

PS. What car won the Hobao (ofna to you guys in the states) Masters ?????? Once JH has finished testing the new T-Rex chassis we will know which is best wont we...

jeasus marry joseph on a popsickle stick i didnt mean to start world war 3 on this thread you guys! you guys did help me out though as for my s3 ill buy the king headz diff brace and try the stock chassis for now if it sucks ill buy the flatt chassis. and uh i whent down to MO. and wacthed taylor james win the KYOSHO challange against some very big drivers like adam drake and greg dagani and so forth he was top qualifier and won the amain so the s3 cant be that bad. :D

Sorry GOD, didn't mean to stamp on your toes. Did drive one, did like it, did see it cracked 3 weeks later and dont care what wins the Ho-Bao champs (driver skill more than car I believe) Jon is in the zone with whatever he drives atm.

RE: s3 chassis

Ok.....I ran the box style chassis for over 6 gallons without one single problem until I forgot to tighten my rear diff housing screws and the chassis cracked. The crack does not in any way hender the performance of the car. Also the other reason it cracks is because the section that is milled out is too thin. ACE has since come out with a new chassis with less material removed. If your chassis is cracked ACE will replace it with the newer less milled area in the rear. Yes we do have tracks with large jumps and yes they do rut badly during a weekend of racing but it's offroad. As for the flat chassis....the chassis is a night and day difference from the box style chassis, aside from it being longer it also gives alittle. I would guess the guys in Eurpope and other countries probably don't run on really rough tracks but the flat chassis just gives the car more forgiveness in the bumps and allows you to drive the car faster through those sections of the track. If your track is rough then I would suggest the chassis in the future it makes a world of difference. The mods you have to make are minimal at best. If you run the RF0 then yes you have to do some dremel work. What people don't seem to realize is that the chassis is also thicker so everything is raised so when you are adding shims to the RF plate you are also changing the degree of anti-squat. For the starter box hole all that is needed to be done is rounding the two ends and your wheel should be fine. If you guys have any questions just post them here and I'll try and answer them.

RE: s3 chassis

I just splurged and got the flat chassis conversion... I also just installed a new delta box due to my old one being twisted in a severe crash. I'm going to install the flat chassis and keep the delta box for back-up. I'm using the RF3.. 3 degrees of anti-squat block. The aluminum suspension blocks are a MUST in my book. I've read that the chassis is NOT suppose to be more flexible than the delta box, its just a 1/4" longer and moves the weight around a little bit giving it more stability.
