OS .21 Question
Just go a new OS .21 and I am wondering if it okay to turn the carb around. The throttle hookup is on the wrong side as it is pictured. I am new at this and I think it should be okay but I want to make sure before I screw up my new engine!![img][/img]

RE: OS .21 Question
Hey! The carbs on these engines must almost always be turned, they arent seatet enough from the factory and they point in another direction.
Do like this loosen the screw that holds the carb, take the carb out and angle it in the direction you want, then push it down with some force and while you are pushing it down thighten the carb screw. And remember to follow the break in procedure as stated in the manual. |
RE: OS .21 Question
Thanks so much I wanted to be sure before I started putting the rest of the engine together and started to break it in. I was going to race tomorrow but I don't have enough time to break it in and get ready for the race so I am going to put it together and just watch tomorrow. I appreciate the help!!

RE: OS .21 Question
Another question... I unsprung the spring in the pull start. What is the trick to fixing this??? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

RE: OS .21 Question
Hey again! ow thats not very good, a spring in the pullstart is usually very tricky to get right, but it can be done. What engine do you have? i suppose it is the OS RG !?
yeah and another thing, i also suppose that u have a buggy, so my tip is that you should get a starter box it will be much easier to get the engine started, and you wont get as many blisters on your fingers.:D |
RE: OS .21 Question
What do I have to do to take the pullstart out and use the starter box then?? It is a pain in the ass as of yet
|
RE: OS .21 Question
You dont need to take the pullstarter out to use a box, there is a one way bearing in the pullstarter so using a box will have nothing to do with the pullstarter.
So try the starter box and if u later on want to trash the pullstarter completely then you can buy a backplate, to replace the pullstart unit with. |
RE: OS .21 Question
so do I have to fix the pullstarter or just attach it with out the spring, etc.
|
RE: OS .21 Question
You might have a few problems with a starter box because pull start engines usually sit higher in the chassis so the flywheel doesn't protrude out of the bottom so much (its to make sure there is room for the pull start assembly). I would check with someones starter box at the track to see if it works before you buy one.
Let me know how you get on because I have an OS RG pull start and might get a starter box in the future |
RE: OS .21 Question
As far as engine mounts, it depends on which buggy you got. I know the Mayhem needs new mounts for a pull start to starter box , but I'm not sure about others?? My old Hyper 7 had no problems using a pull start or starter box.

RE: OS .21 Question
The pullstart engines arent different, at least not the RG.
I had an OS .21RG (X) P once in another car its the same as the ordinary RG. The question is (as J_bone stated) if the engine mounts are different in the buggy that you have. And regarding the spring issue try to get it back i have done it a few times (though a few years since i had a pullstart engine) and it will work just be patient |
RE: OS .21 Question
I'm just saying I've got the RG P (X) in a hyper and you need the mount spacers to fit the motor. This leaves the flywheel on my model some 1/2 inch into the chassis and I'm not so sure the wheel on a starter box will reach it.
