unusual diff problem, can you solve????????????????????????
 

i have an lx comp. and after a weekend of backyard racing the spur gear, or gear on the center diff appears to be slightly wabally or bent. noticed this on my last buggy also. What is causing this...uhhhh...help.

I would check the bearings holding the spur in place. Especially on an entry level car like the LX.

It could be the bearings but then the entire diff would be wobbling. Check the 4 screws on the spur gear that hold it to the diff case because they could have came loose. This will require you to take the entire diff out of the buggy so if you aren't familure with these buggies just pay attention to how you take it apart and get the instuctions if you still have them. Only other possibility is that you actually bent the spur gear. I never heard of that happening though and I don't see how it could happen.

did you ever locktite your metal to metal screws.

well im kinda a buggy veteran, ....and yes i used locktite....but this is the same on my last car

Take the diff uppart and put it back together again and watch the gears to mesh well before torquing those screws.It happened to me once.The spur gear didn't go in plase because the inner gears didn't mesh correctly and when i closed the diff it was like
locked.

When you mounted the engine did you use a piece of paper in between the spur gear and clutch gear? One of my buddies had his too tight and it caused him some problems. also, make sure your engine and spur gear form a 90 degree angle. If its off a little bit I can see that causing the problem too.

gee id have to see a picture to tell you for sure what the problem was......was the clutch bell tore up too? if so id say a small rock could have been the culprit


also ive seen some cars that have spur gears that have a slight wobble from the factory..im not sure why this is except mayby it helps with wear of the 2 gears...???????????????

also all gearing mesh whether it be rc cars or any other type of machinery will have a tight spot and a loose spot...this is real noticible on a bicycle chain or a motorcycle chain there will always be a tight spot...you should always set the chain tension or in this case gear mesh while it is at the tight spot......
