What companies mod engins and is it worth moding engine? thank for the help

would moding a cheap engine be worth it or should someone save up some extra money and get a more expensive motor and mod it

I think it all depends on what your expectations are. Sounds like you don't have a particular engine in mind, which is going to make it harder to answer your question. Some engines lend themselves well to modding. Also, a mod can be for a specific area of the powerband. Say if you have an engine with great top end, but a little underpowered on the low end, a mod can take care of that. Or, as noted a mod can make the usuable powerband wider overall, and increase engine efficiency.

Once you decide what you want, you can just ask whoever you want to do the mod if its possible.

e.g $150 buy Novarossi N21b

$150+80=$230 Buy a RB S7

$230+80=$310 Buy a RB WS7 III

$310 + 80 = $390 Buy a RB C6BB

etc etc

no need for aftermarket mod, just BUY a faster engine.

I have 4 v-Spec engine's. 2 are RBMod, 1 is JPMod and 1 Stock. 1 of the RBmods is actually a VZB with a mod V-spec piston and sleeve. All my engine's were upgraded to TKO ceramic bearing's. They all are fast. The JP has more top end and is smoother than the rb's. The rb v-spec is a rocket on the bottom end. The mod VZB is pretty good all the way around. I would say that the V-spec is fast stock. The mods make them perform better. It's like buying hopups for your buggy. Is it worth it. Hell yea!

I heard that it's a toss-up in performance when you get an engine modded by RB Mods. I know that EB and Hot Mod modify their engines with machines while RB just does it by hand with a rotary tool. What if he slips up or sneezes? [X(]

I have 2 rb's. One is a full on rocket and the other is different, smoother.

stick to factory, theve spent thousands of manhour perfecting the engine. dont let ANYONE go hacking up a perfectly fine engine

This guy has to be the most erogant person I have yet to see on this website. I say go for the mod, this guy probably dont even have a modded engine or has never seen one perform against an unmodded engine. Manufact. get it where it runs, but there is a lot of minor clean up that can be done, most have some major areas for improvement. Get a cheap engine, better, get a dead engine you dont want to sink any money in, get a dremel and some tools for it, do some research online, several sites that show good pics, and give it a whirl, compare what you have as a result to thier pics. It is not that hard, I have done 3, all of which have seen a noticeable power difference. Go for the modded, this is a hobby, it is hands on, dont let someone that dont have a clue alter your decissions. Happy Racing.

i have no problem with people dremeling thier own engine for fun, thats why its called a HOBBY. we all like to experiment. all i say is if you PAY someone $80 for a mod you may as well use that $80 to BUY a better engine.

i've modded several engines and found them to have greater performance smoother accelleration and longer run times, my first engine was an old 5 port force engine, it was a bit of a dog down low, but spent some time with a dremel and now its got real power, go for it man, done right and you'll be pleasantly surprised

This is true, EB and Hotts have machine fixtures for precision. RB Mods dremel mods engines track-side at races, you choose.

I think I'll stick with Hot Mod or EB Mod. In a hobby where precision is neccesary, the engine is the last thing I'd want to mess up with by hand. I have owned a Hot Mod S421BNX and it was by far the best engine I ever had. It lasted 9 gallons. It had so much bottom end power while having tons of leg on the top end.The best thing about it was the fact that the power ratio was very linear and smooth. Even my JP B5 was brutal on the bottom comapred to it. For now I have a Max Power MX21 M5B to play with for next season. :D

How in the world are you able to walk and talk with your foot so far in your mouth??

Just becasue a part is machine cut, does not mean that its perfect. If the stock isn't set right, the machine does not know and makes the cut anyway. As an example, I recently had to send back an aluminum CNC'd dif cup because it was off enough to bind the spider gears. There's also the matter of artistic touch - perhaps we should do away with any sculpture not made by a machine too? After all, no person could carve any piece of material better than some machine eh?

I can only assume that you or someone you know had an engine done by Rick that perhaps did not turn out perfectly. This happens on a rare occasion with any mod. Probably you (or whomever) was a total ***** and he refused to put up with the BS. Who can blame him?

EB mods, Hott mods, TNT mods, all are good. If you want your motor to be more fuel efficient, or have a wider powerband, or increased response in a particular area of the powerband, then get it mod'd. But don't go bashing some poor guys business when it's not deserved, and he is just trying to put food on the table for his family.

I've met someone who feels the same way about EB mods, but one person's opinion is not indicitive of any kind of problem. It's just one person's opinion.

I have to agree, everyone mods there engines different and Rick is no exception, I have been running his mods for quite some time now and have not had any problems, I get my engines from JP France and they go to rick to be modded. The problem with people doing there own mods is each brand of engine needs something different, whether it be a timing change on the crank or sleeve, lightened crank, or just the ports need cleaning. So just making improvements to the sleeve and crank doesn't mean you are getting the full effects of the mod you have done. Anybody can make fixtures for a sleeve and mass produce 100 motors in a week, but I would rather have my engines hand modded to ensure quality. If you want a specific mod from Rick just ask. His motors are done on the conservative side, you want more power just tell him you want the max power from the engine or try a drag mod in a buggy.

I have run modded motors for a while now, and found RBmods to be the best I have run. Increased run time and power. Rick is a good person who has an amazing wealth of knowlege and will work with you to determine what kind of power you want and what your budget will allow. There are some good companies performing mods, but I will be buying all my engines from RBmods.
