RE: caster buggie

there's a guy at our local track who is sponsored by them, the buggy itself doesn't look too bad for what you pay for it. a lot of mugen parts are a direct fit and it has a few quality parts on it. there's a few things i don't like, but you get that with every buggy. he hasn't had a chance to get it up & running properly yet so it will be interesting to see how it goes against the hypers, mugens & kyoshos when he does.

wow... I just sent in my Resume to Caster and am hoping they say yes... It looks like a really nice buggy... What don't you like about it?

RE: caster buggie

there's a few little things that could have been done better, but i believe it's their 1st buggy, so i'm sure they'll fix it with the next one. the body cutouts don't match the buggy fuel tank & engine position correctly, there was a few things that needed to be tweeked or finished better, it had a lot of bump steer, but a few washers & longer screws can fix that, those are the things i can remember, but there were a couple of other things.

RE: caster buggie

Caster ZX-1 isn't a bad buggy but it's not one of the best either. This is their first buggy (as mentioned above) so the kits had some missing pieces, etc. Basically all the things you would expect from a new company. The quality doesn't seem to be the same as Mugen or Kyosho but you can get into this buggy at a very reasonable price and replace the plastic you break with Mugen MBX5 (Mugen's plastic feel's more durable and better quality).

You can't beat it for the price; I'd take Caster over most of the other RTR's around the same price. This buggy is popular around Singapore and Australia, where it is showing to be a strong competitor placing top 3 in some national races.

We bought 2 pro kits and 3 RTR's. If you interested in a used buggy send me a PM.

RE: caster buggie

i have a caster zx-1 rtr.well as with all rtr you have to replace some parts to make it stronger ie shock towers, chassy braces, servos and cvd's. all mugen mbx-5 parts fit. so spares are easy to come by.onece you have done these changes you'll have a very very light and strong buggy. it can and does compete with the best out there. it turns very tight and jumps well. the best though is the price, they pretty cheap compared to other top brands. GO FOR IT you wont be dissapointed.

hey man

i am sponsored by team caster,i have not had a lot of time with it yet but it it drives well.
i am still sorting the setup out.the car is very nimble and fast off the line.it changes direction very quick
and jumps very well.as dicko said this is their first car and the new one will be out somtime around august as well as the truggy:D
for a first car it is great, look how many cars kyosho and mugen have made.

i cant wait to have some more drive time with it

RE: caster buggie

I have been running a ZX-1 RTR from last year October and recently in January got my Pro kit.
Have to say buggies have held up well.
Only exceptions on RTR was the shock towers and front universal shafts.
To date I have replaced a hand full of parts to improve reliability ie:
radio ,shock towers,1 diff pinion gear,2 pairs front universal shafts ,1 rear A-arm and 4 wing stays.
With exception of shock towers and universals rest was mainly the nut behind the wheels fault.
This after 20 + liters through RTR.

The RTR is good value for money ,key items to upgrade is steering servo and use stock steering servo for throttle.
Option shock towers , option chassis brace set and option front and rear universals.
A option chassis is also recommended.
Also upgrade to better quality o-rings for shocks as they start leaking.

The Pro kit has really amazed me ,sure its not the same quality of K or Mugen but its very robust.
The suspension upgrades has improved front steering response and the new shock towers are AWESOME .
Only recommendation is to put longer screws and lock nuts on rear shock tower.
Other than that the Pro is great !!!

I am know the distributor in South africa as I see this product going places in the not so distant future.
Cant wait for the Truggy to be ready later this year as well as range of option parts and accessories for other brands.

So from me a double thumbs up !!!

RE: caster buggie

The zx-1

The bads

1. Very bad Eclips. Must upgrade to pins from k factory or use from prospec
2. Not 7075 chassis . Must upgrade to mugen chassis or k factory. The Engine hole mount will develop a crack and it will break
3. Pivot front arms must be changed to mugen

The goods
1.Very good quality plastics. even the drivers with mugen are buying from caster for front arms
2. better quality carbon fiber.. Better than ofna quality
3. resonably price for a mugen mbx5 clone
4. Any mbx5 options can be fitted in.

ZX1 04-17-2006 12:01 PM

RE: caster buggie

thanks i have the RTR and about to change the chassis to the pro
also if you put some silicone or shoe glue on the clips that should help ?
why change the pivot arms if mugan guys are using caster arms ??
just a thought

razzor 04-17-2006 02:48 PM

RE: caster buggie

The e-clips are not the best ,i use a little silicone sealant on them and have yet to have one pop off.
The Kfactory pin kit is the best thing though.
RTR chssis copes Ok for bashing around but if you race I would suggest Pro chassis or the option chassis or better yet ,Kfactory MBX5 carbon chassis.
If you dont mind spending some extra cash on the Pro I would suggest :

Kfactory universals for front and back.(although new Pro kits will have revised cvd's)
Kfactory mbx5 carbon chassis or Casterracing option chassis.
Kfactory hinge pin kit

Change screws for rear shock tower for longer ones with lock nuts.
Change the rear brace holder to alluminium option part.
front upper hinge pin holders to a alluminium option part
The front toe in plate has two dowels that locate in the chassis ,drill and screw in countersunk screws
to prevent the toe in plate from popping out when you have a bad crash or most of the time nose dive.
With shocks disconnected make sure suspension arms and steering move with out binding.

With the above, car is sorted.

Besides the above ,invest time into your buggy to get a good setup going and lots of PRACTICE.
also maintenance plays a important role in how reliable a car runs. You can find problems before they happen or prevent them.
