Hyper 8 Overated!!!
whenever there is a new buggy and everyone buys one ( over here mainly newbies who used to own a Hyper 7) they all say wow its so much better.
if it really is so much better, wouldnt they be able to cut at least a second off lap times? where were all the hyper8 drivers at the USA nats? degani qulified in the C, only got a bumpup to the B. Pretty poor showing considering they bought the World Champion and he couldnt even make a 15 man A final at the nats with it. my 2c.[&o] |
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
The buggy only makes up the last 5% of the lap times, the driver makes the difference.
The 3 people i know who have upgrade to Hyper 8's all rave about them. |
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
I have one question for you Hincappe how many Hyper 8 have you own? Or is this all just hot air. :D

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
I'd agree with that, not many of the top pro's go for the lesser name brands. Just because it's not a Kyosho or Mugen doesn't mean it won't be in there mixing it up at the worlds. That will be the big test fot this beastie. And no I don't own one yet but when I have finished moving in to my new house it will be right at the top of my shoping list (wifestyle permiting).
Another thing to think about is maybe the geezer just had a bad day (every sunday), or maybe the other guys just got the breaks, if you know what it's like on track then you'll know what I'm talking about. |

Do you know all the reasons behind them not making it?? The are ALOT of other factors that could have been happening, that may have caused them to struggle...It happens to us all!! Also, if you don't have one yourself then you have no clue what you are talking about, and you should keep your mouth shut. The buggy IS that good despite what you think. It IS winning all over the world(if you actually did some research you would have known this), and here in the US as well...So to me you just sound un-educated about the racing scene, and again should just remain quiet... Lets just see how it does at the Worlds...I bet it beats your favorite buggy... When "I" can stay with alot of the top pro's with the buggy (and once I even won), the buggy MUST BE THAT GOOD!!! Because I'm not a Pro...Nuff Said... |

He's just sour because another American owned the Tour De France.

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
All I can say is that the H8 is a kick as buggy and with the right set-up and the right driver it can go to the top.

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
I've had a couple of opportunities to drive a Hyper 8. A friend of mine got one. After driving it for the first time, my initial impression was that the suspension needed tuning. We run a very tight track and as it turned out, the was too much caster in the front and it wasn't set up as the manual set it was. He installed another "spacer" and reduced the amount of caster and voila. The missing steering was there. He then went to 20 weight shock oil in all four corners. Although it turned out that 20 was too light, I could see the handling coming in. My impression at that point was that it felt like a Kyosho.
In short, I think the Hyper 8 is a pretty nice buggy. I think I'm still going to get the X-Ray as my next buggy, but that's just a matter of preference. I'm not saying that the 8 is a crappy buggy. The truth of the matter is that they are all good, well, for the most part. I have seen pieces of junk, but the Mugens, Kyoshos, Ofnas, Sportwerks, XTMs, etc. are all nice buggies. Each has it's strong points and weak points, just some more so than others. A buggy doesn't make a winner. I have a buddy, Mark, that I run with regularly. He is a killer driver. He's just coming over from 1/10 scale and pretty much kicks butt when he does race. He hasn't been out of town much, YET; but it's coming. Anyway, it doesn't matter what he's driving. He kicks my butts all over the place. I can take his X-Ray and he can take my Turmoil and wipe the ground up with me, although I do a better job of keeping up when I'm driving his X-Ray. OK, I think I've gotten off on a tangent here. My two cents are that the Hyper 8 is a nice buggy with a lot of adjustability out of the box. It wouldn't be my firs choice, but I wouldn't call it junk either. As for the Mugen, Kyosho, or X-Ray coming in first place in any given race, I'm sure that the drivers accomplishing this would have done so even if they had been driving something other than what they were. It could have been a Hyper 8. |

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
Like Coopz said the buggy is only about 5% of your speed. With the right setup any buggy can be driven fast. For instance a friend of mine with the hyper and and me driving my MP777 are dead even in speed. Theres a few places where hes faster and some places where I'm faster but we still always end up ***-for-tat unless one of us makes a mistake. Both of us made quite a few changes in setup on the buggies to fit the track and our driving as well and I don't think either of us is faster then the other driving wise. The thing with the hyper 8 is its so dam easy to drive. My MP777 keeps me on my toes but when I drove his hyper 8 it would just cruise around the track. With the hyper 8 you can get pleanty of steering while still keeping the rear end planted while with my MP777 you need the break the rear end loose to get it to turn that sharp. Not only that but the hyper 8 takes any bump on our track at any angle and makes it through smooth which my MP777 does as well but not quite as good.

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
and sorry i maybe not explain myself. it not just talking about the hyoer8. its all NEW buggies in general there is alot of people who buy and say "oh its so much faster than xyz"
it happen the same when the thunder tiger came out, also the sp1, and now the hyper8. look how fast they changed the TT chassis and also the sp1 got changed to sp2. they were too hard to drive fast... |
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
I never see my favorite car (the xray xb8) on any race results. however that doesn't change my opinion that its the best car on the market. and its certainly the best car for my driving style, im not that great of an off-road driver but the xb8 makes me look like i am.

I take a whole lot more stock in what some one says when they have experience with what they are talking about. I have been in to nitro for a while but am just getting in to buggies. I am going to start out with the Hyper 8 as I think it is the best bang for the buck right now. |
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
Team Helotes has the XB8R for $375. I think that's the best bang for the buck right now.

RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
I guess it depends on who you talk to but thanks for the heads up.
|
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
i have driven two of my freinds mugens that were set up well, they are both very fast drivers.when i drive my hyper 8 it feels no different to the 2 mugens i have driven. no doubt it is a fast car any good driver could win with it and the winner of any large race around the world could probably do it with any of the other top brand cars.
|
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
i dont think its over rated, it ranks up there with a lot of buggies quality wise. its even better that its
below average price wise. but it still comes down to proper setup. it doesnt matter if its a 400$ buggy or an 800$ buggy without proper setup it makes no difference. he who spends the most money doesnt always win! |
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
if you're talking about all the new buggies why did you title it "hyper 8 overrated" and i personally think its a great car. nicely balanced and just plane drives well.
|
RE: Hyper 8 Overated!!!
So i am looking at most the responses here, and it seems not matter what you drive, the driver is the one making a diff, why not just buy an himoto and soup it up? The guy here seem like someone that was thinking about getting a H-8 and saw the stats of the race and said, " wow, all the rave about this car and that's all it did? I guess it's not all that." I know when i look at a race, i pay little attention to who wins, just what he drove.
