Spectrum Reciever Wire
 

I managed to wrap my reciever wire around my rear drive shaft with obvious results. Snap 2/3 of it of and didn't realise until i was cleaning my buggy. Was wondering what the best way of fixing it is?

I thought i'ld ask this question here first before 'cause there is more trafic and i'm sure alot of people have done this.

The best thing to do is send it to Horizon and have them fix it, and recalibrate it at the same time...If your really good with a soldering iron then you could attempt to fix it yourself, but I don't recommend doing it yourself when its safer to just send it in and have it done right...

I'ld like to give it ago myself due to time if it has to go to the U.S. and back i'ld have to buy another reciever anyway just to race. What guage wire would i need? Would the wire of one of my old am receivers be the right guage. Looks the same by eye?

I forgot you are oversea's...I'd take a snipet of the wire to some hardware stores or electronic stores, and try to find the exact same size, and strand count. I doubt its much different than other's reciever wire, but check it closely to make sure...

I am assuming you already know that you need to open the receiver up and desolder the existing anntenna, then solder the new one onto the contact point. but i thought i would mention it anyway. its not hard to do at all, just be sure the circuit board is held staedy by something, dont let the iron slip and slide across the curcuit board.

A lot of good info here but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the length. Make sure that the replacement antenna wire is exactly the same length as the original. The lengths are designed to pickup a certain wavelength of signal. A modified length can lead to a lot of interference and limited range.

I remember reading somthing about being ablr to cut the wire in half and it still work fine, maybe it was a diffrent reciver, but Im almost sure it was the spektrum system. Double check on that before you go and rip into it, if you can get by with running it cut half the orignal length, then thats an easy fix. Let me see if I can find the artical.
Its on a pdf file, spektrum.com...Note:If desired, the antenna can be shortened (cut) to exactly 3.6 inches with negligible loss of range, and in some applications the short 3.6 inche length will make installation easier.
So, if you still have 3.6 inches you should be ok, if not, then I would go with above mentioned steps. GL.

Yeah the can be cut in half it was short enough to start with so i never bothered but no i'm down to 1/3 the original length.

I'll have a stab at soldering it. I just had another thought, worst comes to worst, i still have my fm modules, i'ld just have to remeber to put up the arial on the transmitter.

Just read that bit about 3.6 inches on there web site... i'll have to double check it would have to be close. I was thinking it was half to start with so i haven't measered it but damn it'll be close.
