xlb pullstart

hi, i am new still. i broke the first pullstart. bought a new one, lost the spring... uncoiled... bad story. said screw it, bought another. put it on and it would not recoil all the way. i left it a little bit loose and it recoiled fine. ran it back and forth a bit in the parking lot, seemd fine. put it on the track and within 30 seconds parts flew off. it was the pullstart of course. hjow do i make it recoil when its brand new without having to leave it loose on the car?

yeah, thats the one. i knew what it looked like. i knew how much it costs, i said i bought 2 already. i know where to get another. how about any tips on 'breaking it in'. when new it is very stiff and will not recoil if screwed onto the motor tight. thanks
