Spacing the clutch nut
 

yo guys. ive recently ran into lots of trouble with my clutch setup. the clutch bell would move up and down the shaft even with the cracnkshaft screw in place. there i about a millimeter of gap between the screw/washer and clutch bell. i tryed fixing this by adding a spacer behind the clutch nut. its about 2mm thick. it spaced it out fine, but it caused problems with the clutch shoes. of the 3 clutch shoes broke at the part where it goes on the flywheel pegs. is this caused by the extra gap using the spacer behind the nut? because without the spacer, the clutch bell would move on the shaft. also, is the black residue on the chassis normal?

You should not have a spacer behind thee clutch nut. to stop the bell from sliding on the crank, put more spacers on the front where the screw goes into the crank. By putting a spacer there you move the clutch nut from its original spacing.

When you put the shoes on, the spring kinda centres the shoes. And with the nut moved, the shoes will move up also. They are probably only half on the pegs. This would be why they would break and the residue is not normal, that is probably from the shoes being moved closer to the bell and rubbing on the bell.

Well 1. Your bearings, shoes, and clutch bell are all pretty shot get some new ones. 2. That grime looks to be standard grime that is formed when nitro and oil mix with dirt. It looks like you just need to clean that car more often, and set your gear mesh better because that clutch bell shouldn't wear out like that for a long time. Also when shimming a clutch bell you put spacers on the other side of the clutch nut as well as in front of the clutch bell if needed, not behind the nut.

I also suggest you get a new flywheel as that one looks like it's been taking it easy in Beiruit. The spacer behind your clutch nut just makes me wonder inf the flywheel has been tightened down to much before and so widened the tapered hole....mmmm....

New Flywheel, bearings, shim kit, shoes and less aggresion is my prescription.

yeah i effed up my clutch setup pretty bad lmao. the flywheel has some scratches on the sides because i used a flathead to get the clutch bell off when the clutch bell bearings where stuck on the crankshaft. ill try putting spacers between the clutch net and clutch bell, but i think it might rub against the bearing. i installed new bearings, getting new aluminum clutch shoes this week, and fixing the clutch nut problem. oh and btw, i dont have the right spacers, because when i put like a washer where the crankshaft and screw meet, it does not slide through teh crankshaft. so it doesnt help at all. ill try finding a solution when i fix the car today.

You'll need the 3 x 5mm shims that come in 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3mm thickness. Kyosho has a kit for that. Forgot the part no.
