Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
I was just wondering, is there any difference in materials in the two. I don't really care for the engine or electronics, but does OFNA downgrade the materials or anything really from the pro version. If they did, wouldn't it cost less.
Cheers, Byron |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
Ofan does not make a thing they just import. As all ways the pro kit come with more up grades out of the box then a RTR. I am sure the radio system is just adequate and not much more in the RTR like most RTR. I think the RTR has more aluminum where the kit has more CF. I do not do RTR as you just end up with a much better vehicle with a kit and in the end. Moat times even costing you less the buying a RTR and doing all the up grades and better radio.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
I may be wrong but you will most probably find that
The chassis on the RTR is not CNC'd and probably of a lower grade aluminium, The Shock towers will not be CNC'd just pressed alloy, The Carbon braces will all be replaced with pressed alloy, The steering knuckles will be cast not CNC'd, There are probably a few other differences as well. If anybody knows differently I'd be glad to hear it. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
Lightweight engine mounts,
CNC knuckles, CNC shock towers, Same chassis plate, Same Diffs, Quad brakes, Unpainted shell, Universal D/shafts throughout, Same shocks, CNC Chassis braces, No Radio, No engine, To be honest, this is one buggy that is cheaper to go the RTR route and then upgrade. |

Man I hate when the companies do that! Changing kits around for different parts of the world. Yes, I know, different countries need different things, but its hard for helping someone on the other side of the pond.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
hey guys
help me out please. i got my hyper 8 kit yesterday. and of course i got some questions. is the shock oil that comes with the kit ok to use. i`ll only be bashing for while until i get good with the car before i race next year. i`m puting in the hyper .28 engine for now and it didn`t come with a glow plug. whats a good glow plug?? what about diff oil. the kit came 80% prebuilt. with the diffs built already. should i tear into the diffs? or trust the factory they filled them right??? if not. what a good weight to use?? also the stock clutch bell is 13t. i have a 15t racing clutch bell that i would like to use. is that ok??? i don`t want to start building until i get some answers. thanks guys. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
i would at least check all the diffs to make sure they have oil, its easier to do it now. i think it comes 3-3-1.
i ended up running 3-5-1 in mine with 40f 30r shock oil. the stock shock oil will be ok to start with, its easy to change later on. if your just bashing i would stay with the 13t clutchbell, the clutch will last a little longer. make sure all metal to metal screws are locktited. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
hey trackman
thanks. what do you mean by 3-3-1??? 30w-30w-10w??? and what about a glow plug? any ideas on that. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
the diff oils are 3000,3000, 1000wt. im not that familiar with ofna motors but i would think the ofna plugs
would be ok. i ran the stock diff oil for a while to get a feel for it. then i started experimenting with different weights. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
thanks trackman.
at least i can start turning some wrenches tonite. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
My Hyper 8 pro kit came with 3-3-grease in the diffs.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
hey 46u
i was waiting for you on this post.:D so do you think i should pull apart the diffs? and what do you think about a glow plug. its getting cold here in the north east. 30`s at night 50`s during the day. i also got a starter box too. i read somewhere you just got one too. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
I had my starter box before I got my buggy but only use it on my buggy right now. Got a very good deal and new I was getting a buggy so I picked it up. Yes when I got my Hyper 8 pro kit I took the rear diff apart cleaned and put 1K in it. Then after a couple of gallons I took the middle diff apart and put 5K in it. So now I have 3k front 5K middle and 1K rear. Have not run it since I switched to 5K in the middle. As far as glow plug all depends on what temperatures your engine is running and how it is running. If it is getting up to at least 220 degrees and running fine I would not worry.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
46 let me know what you think of the 5k in center. it seemed to put the power to the ground
better than with the 3k, felt smoother thru the turns. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
CHECK THE DIFFS!!!!!!!! After I ran a few times with mine, I took the diffs out to put different weight oil in them and the rear had NOTHING in it!!!! No oil OR grease. It is best to check it first then to be sorry later.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
thanks guys
you talked me into checking the diffs. i just started building the shocks last night. a little bit of a pain with those little steel spring clips on the bottom of the shock, i was worried about losing them. |
RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
When you run into problems putting little clips in little holes or over shafts where parts can go flying just grab a large plastic bag, I like the 1 gallon size ziplocks, stick your parts and hands inside the bag. When it goes flyingit stays in the bag, no more vacuum cleaner noisemakers.

hey bent
yea. that a good idea. i`ll do that next time. i did have one clip go flying. but luckly i found it. i like to call those things jesus clips. beacuse when they go flying its like "jesus christ where did it go":D |

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
hey g
thanks. i have to do that. you guys talked me into ripping into the diffs. i`ll post up what i find when i take apart the diffs. it won`t be until at least the weekend as i don`t have any diff oil on me at this time. so i`ll wait until i get some at my LHS. i`ll do other things to the h8 until then. build shocks, build engine, paint body, etc. |

sorry to hear that. that really sucks. our local track is in my backyard. it makes testing very conveinent.

RE: Hyper 8 compared to Hyper 8 rtr
hey guys
just an update on the diffs. i pulled them apart last night. all of them were ok with oil. but??? the o rings were pinched on 2 of them. this would of caused oil to leak out if not taked care of. so yes. thanks guys for talking me into taking them apart. |
