RE: STS engine
Don't waste your time or your money... been there done that and will never do it again... Especially if you are used to running a WS7II. At the start of the season there was a whole thread full of people going on and on about how great these engines were. Talking about how they had a few sponsored drivers that were going to make huge showings with these engines and all of a sudden they have all disappeared and are no longer braging about these engines. First it's a cheap replica of italian made engines, and it's not going to last long... second a lot of people are getting these engines and finding metal shavings in the crank case they have to clean out before running.
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money now on an engine so you don't end up spending it down the road when the STS dies. |
RE: STS engine
I have the STS D21B engine and is a great engine. Do not think you can get a better one for the money. Better to take advise from people that have run one. No it does not compare to engines twice the money but you are not spending twice the money. Mine does very well for me and do not think an engine that cost twice the money would give me any more enjoyment.

RE: STS engine
Just getting old and one of the biggest things has all ways been my eyes. I am all most legally blind. Do not have as big a problem seeing as judging distance and in RC is a real problem. But thanks for asking.

RE: STS engine
Great motor from what I heard. Don't hesitate to buy one and many others.

RE: STS engine
If i were you, i would buy the d21b, or the d21t. I have the d21t and it is a screamer. This engine is just as good as one that cost twice as much, it has bottom end and top end that is amazing.

RE: STS engine
yeah I have heard nothing but great things from friends running these engines. They seem to be an excellent budget priced engine. Of course comparing an RB to it is like comparing a ferrari to a ford so its never going to outlast an italian engine but for the price who cares? They're as "cheap as chips" and have heaps of power! Shaving remnants in an engine is not exclusive to just cheap engines. That can occur in any engine.

RE: STS engine
I like the D21T as well. My son runs one in his XB8. I think it might be a little better than the V-spec that it replaced.
We have two off-road tracks here. Both have a different club racing group. At one of the tracks, all the guys are running big $$$ stuff. Last Wednesday, only two buggies were not running either a modified RB or Rossi. One of the two buggies is owned by this guy named Bill. Bill runs a Mugen powered by a STS. I do not know the details of his motor, but I do know he wins all the time. He runs at both tracks. If he does not break, he wins. Now I will say that this guy can drive. He could probably win with an old beater. Bill grew up in a town 26 miles away called Burkbarnett, TX. Same town Steve Slayden is from. They are both the same age. I found out the other day that they use to race electric together. Kind of cool. Sorry to ramble, but my point is that I do not think this guy would run junk. Further, I'm pretty sure that STS power won two major titles in expert truggy last year. |
RE: STS engine
I guess I will see how long my STS D21B holds up but if I have to rebuild it parts are cheap! Here is a great place to buy STS engines and parts in the states. Tell Mark Jeff sent you.

RE: STS engine
I've seen lots of STS engines run and you either get a really good one or a really bad one. For the price it's worth the risk because you can swap carbs if yours stinks and chances are it'll run great. As long as you know what you're buying and don't expect it to run like a VSpec.
