please help diff oils
After filling my diffs in xt2 with the correct xtm diff oils front 50,000 front 70,000 centre 30,000 rear, the car front diff seems to take too long to transfer the power so i asked some people at a local track i was told at a local track that these oils were miles out ( no one who knew an xt2 ) is this because there are a plantery diff and not a spider diff ? whats oils should i use ? or does any one know if spiders are better also are they available ? many thanks andy.

RE: please help diff oils
i hope you meant 5000, 7000 and 3000, instead of 50000, 70000, and 30000...that would be a reason.

RE: please help diff oils
that might be your problem you shouldve run 5,000-7,000-3,000 instead

RE: please help diff oils
the manual says 70,000 50,000 30,000 ?

RE: please help diff oils
some brands number their diff & shock oils differently. I have a mugen shock oil thats says 350wt when infact its actually 35wt. The 50000 may infact be 5000 and its just the way the manufacturers term it. But if it really is 50000, then yes that would be your problem. But that sounds way way way too thick going by normal values so I doubt the wheels would even move using oil that thick.
Spider gears are essentially just like normal diffs except they have 8 gears instead of 6 gears. They offer more traction. |
RE: please help diff oils
I am running 3000F, 5000C, 1000B in my Rex XTM-1 same Spider gears this is for very tight short track bumpy mixed surface.
I will in time may change to 5000f, 7000C, 3000B. This setting better for open longer track smother surface. I have tried 3000F, 10000C 1000B and buggy was right stuffed up hard to drive etc. Your oil settings 50,000 front 70,000 center 30,000 rear all 4 wheels all most locked in 4x4 drive. |
RE: please help diff oils
no the car is not locked in 4wd but seems lack of help from xtm racing ! does anyone not race with xtm diff oils

RE: please help diff oils
Id suggest getting some oils and trying it out .
Usual setups are : 5000w Front ,5000w center ,3000w rear. This would be a starting point ,from there you could see if it makes a difference first ,and if it does. Then look at fine tuning to other possible combinations.ie: 7/5/3 7/5/2 5/7/3 ........etc.... |
RE: please help diff oils
im having a problem understading this thread. You said you put 50,000 front 70,000 centre 30,000 rear oil. The problems your describing would all happen if you made the mistake of putting in 50,000 70,000 and 30,000 in stead of 5,000 7,000 and 3,000. So get soe diff oil, and put it in. It isnt that big a deal what company you use. I use sportwerks, you could also use OFNa, and there are a bunch of other companies.
