8ight durability?
 

I am looking at picking up a 2 month old roller 8ight for $200. Here are my questions. First, i heard that after 1 or 2 races you need to rebuild most of the car. like cvd out drives,arms,bearings, ect... I heard almost everything wears out really fast. I was going over the car yesterday and saw a lot of worn out parts. Its only been raced 5 times. About 1 gallon total on the car. I have about 5 gallons on my Jammin x1-cr-ft and everything is still snug. I have only broken 1 shock shaft after rear ending a car. So i don't want a car thats needs weekly rebuilds. Second is the shocks. All i hear about is leaks. Is this true? I never leaked a drop from my jammin. Is it worth $200? Also is what i mentioned above true? I wll NEVER sell my Jammin but wouln't mind adding another GOOD buggy to my stable. Is it GOOD? Thanks for any help.

Funny thing about any RC car, is two identical cars with identical run times and equipment, can have completely different wear rates based on the driver and how they treat them. My car has a few gallons through it, several races, and several practice days. It's in great shape, and easily worth $300-$400 for the roller(although I have no intention of selling it). Could that one you're looking at be worth $200?, sure, sounds like $100 woth of parts would restore it to like new. On the flip side, there's a couple local noobs that have 8ight RTRs, and after seeing what they went through...I wouldn't give them $50...

Why? A lot of problems with rtr? Well it was owned by a hobby shop owner. He takes good care of his cars. I quess your right about $100 fixing it up. Thanks. If anyone else can comment it would be great.

The 8 is very durable. It was my first buggy and I ran 2.5 to 3 gallons through it. Being a beginer I put it through hell. My buddy just took it apart and the only thing it needed was a hinge pin and shock orings. The car is still very free so we didnt replace any bearings.

Mine is the ready to run.

I put 5 gallons on my Jammin. I got it used with about 2 or 3 on it already and have not replaced anything. Only the shock shaft due to crash. Shock rings at 2 1/2 gallons? Not good at all in my opinion. The hinge pin i can see if your a newbie. I also heard the shock boots suck as well. Tear very easily.

I have a few gallons thru mine (kit not RTR), nothing broken or leaking. Leaking shocks are caused by crashes (or poor assembly). Shock boots ussually tear because of improper installation.

I'm not trying to be rude, so please don't take it the wrong way. This is a genuine question. If your so satisfied with the Jammin, why are you looking for an 8ight, which you've heard so many negative things about? I'm just curious, as I'm, thinking about getting a new buggy myself.

i just rebuild mine after 9 gallons... i replaced all the bearings , and rebuild all the CVD's new front hubs and some other small plastic parts.. not that it was REALLY needed but i went ahead and replaced it anyway.

everything still looked in OK shape , even the bearings were still pretty free...

not too bad for 9 gallons if you ask me...

Good question. I didn't mean to sound like im bashing it above either. The reason i am looking at the 8ight is because---
1. Always fun to try something new
2. It turns sharper than my jammin
3. Some people say they love it & have had no problems ( Even though not many people defended it on this thread)
4. Its a new design
5. Why not?
6. I may just find " The car for me"

Well just to let eveyone know i am not buying it. Upon further inspection its pretty beat up. The outdrives are worn, all 4 shocks are leaking and there is sooooooooooooo much slop. He also bumped his price up. I just picked up a JP-3 for my CRT instead. SWEET! Mabey ill pick i new 8ight up in the futher. Or pick up the M1-B. Who knows.[&:]

I have run Kyosho since I started racing 5 years ago. I had a Losi Eight for about two months and sold it as a result of what of what is being said on this thread. That's what happens when you try something brand new to the market. It always takes a couple of tries to finally get it right. I am sue Losi will update the next release of the Eight.

there's nothing wrong with the 8ight... let me see..in 9 gallons..i broke 2 shock standoffs , 1 shocks shafts and a left front a-arm and a hinge pin. and that's it ...i have a kit and i'm still on the original servo's..

just don't buy it and get rid of it after a month or 2 ,because you can't drive it...it takes a while to get used to it..i used to run kyosho's ,before i got the 8ight...i don't think the 8ight is THAT much better , it has it's weak and strong points just like the kyosho did ...just don't think your going to win easier just because your running a 8ight... my lap times are pretty much the same as they are with the kyosho , i just think the 8ight feels better...

I've given my 8ight a rough time bashing around in the back lot. The one time I thought for sure I killed it was when it hit a tire. I had made a left and gave it full gas. It went about 40 feet down a little path and behind some weeds. I've ran it through there before with no problem. Not this time. I heard a noise and it bounced back and over it's top and back on it's rubber. Some one tossed a big truck tire and rim back there. The 8ight bounced off it and kept on going. I brought it back and inspected it and nothing was broken. I've missed a ramp once or twice and it keeps on running. It's built plenty strong. If it wasn't for the throttle servo issue I would say it's one of the best around.

Horizon has a fix for th leaky shock issue. Their coming out with direct replacement O' rings. Although my shocks don't leak so I don't need them. if you buy a kit they should be in it.
