help with eight starterbox
 

went to track today with new losi eight kit, the starterbox is a real pain, the opening is very small, having really hard time lining everything up , aside from the losi tech tip to chamfer the side of the wheel does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or help for me concerning this, what starterbox is good, what do I need to do????????????????

what i neeed to do is, to take ur motor out, then u can see the opening in the chassis more cleaer, then put the car on the starterbox and have the hole on the chassis directly on the starterbox wheels, then simply grab a marker and mark where u need to put the pegs, take the car off and screw the pegs in, simple:)

What kind of starter box? What kind of battery? Got a picture?

The hardest thing about a starter box is the hour or so it will take to set it up!

It will take a bit of trial and error to get the alignment pegs in just the right spot for easy starting. The motor/ drive wheel assembly will have to be adjusted to accomadate the idividual car.

I use the Ofna chrome top (the box is black with a chrome top) . It's about a 100 bucks and includes a gel battery and glo start. Works great, here's the part # OFN 10249.

I'm Using the ofna true start 12v motor 12v gel cell, Blue box w/ chrome top and mine lined up ok. didn't have to chamfer the wheel at all but I also seem to be the only one that can use it. I had to run down off the stand to start my car for my pit guy and five other guys that were trying to help him.

Despite all the pins being set tight and well aligned I still have to push the the buggy up to the front and make sure it is well settled before it catches the flywheel just right.

I've heard of others opening the flywheel slot by grinding at it, but I don't think I could stand to do that to my buggy.

I ordered an Ofna box from Tower Hobbies and it pretty much sucked. I could not get the pins to align the car and the spring mechanism required a lot of force to push down and engage. The wheel was also too big to properly engage the losi engine. I did not feel like hogging out the chassis so I opted for the red/purple Mugen box for about a $100 and that worked for me. Somewhere on here is a picture of a guys setup with the Mugen box and I followed the picture with success. There were no modifications necessary to the box or car with this setup. I think the box is a Mugen Pro B II or something. I will use the ofna box for my 4 tec or something.

Get a Team Magic X5 starter box or the Ofna 10th scale dual motor box (solid black one). Both work GREAT because of their small wheels. I also carved away at the bottom of my chassis a bit to allow some extra room for the wheel to get up in there (not neccesary with these boxes).

Here are some picture to help you out , pay close attention to the third one , you need to shim up the lid with a 3/4" tube so the lid comes up , this is needed so the starter wheel rotates before any part will hit the wheel , what happens alot on the chrome top + 8ight is that it will hit something before the wheel in teh box can build some momentum.

1) set your pins to the pictures
2) shim the lid - IMPORTANT !! i found this to make the box work 10x better
3) chamfer the wheel a bit ( i use a box cutter and push down on the box to make the wheel rotate don't cut INTO the rotation hold the knife on a angle so it will actuallly RUB the wheel instead of straight cutting it, do this outside cause it will smoke big time...but is the easiest way and best way to chamfer a wheel)
4) you may or may not need to chamfer the edges of the chassis , it doesn't need much , but because the wheel is larger you may have to to keep the wheel from hitting the edge of the chassis)

my box i just put the 8ight on it and push the ignitor on it , and that's it , it will start every time...
