what is wrong with my starter box?? HELP!!

yesterday my ofna chrome top was fine, today i try to turn my engine over after putting some after run oil in it, and the starter box is now acting strange. it seems like the starter wheel is slipping on the shaft. when i press down to turn the starter box motor on, the shaft will spin, but the rubber wheel will spin slowly till it finally catches up to speed with the shaft. when i try to turn the engine over on it, the flywheel will stop the rubber wheel and the shaft will keep going. what is wrong? i made sure the nut on the front of the starter box motor was tight, but when i try to tighten it, it just turns the whole shaft and doesn't tighten up anymore. do i need a new starter box motor? i havent even had this box for a month.

I had the same problem when I initially set up my chrome-top starter box as well.

You need to keep that shaft from moving while you tighten down that nut. What I did was not the best way to do it, but I stuck a screwdriver into one of the slots of the motor case to keep the armature from turning while I cranked down on the nut.

Now that I think about it, you can probably try finding a few washers to stack between the nut and starter wheel so it gets tight sooner. Once it gets so tight, you can hold onto the rubber wheel and tighten the nut.

good idea, but i cant get the nut off because when i try to loosen it, it turns the whole shaft.
