Team Magic M1-B?
I've started a little researching of current 1/8 scale competition buggies possible for me, and I sort of want something high-end with this purchase when I make it.
What is this Team Magic M1-B I found? Looks a bit different, although I didn't seem to stumble across any aftermarket hop-ups. Is it a good comparision against other top buggies? I hear mostly talk about the Losi 8ight - should I just buy the 8ight buggy, or is there better than this? I'd like something with a good amount of hop-ups which is also quite capable out of the box. I did see an 8ight the other day, it looked very nice in person. Thanks guys. |
RE: Team Magic M1-B?
ehhh id say if your set on the M1-B wait a little bit longer for its debute is the IFMAR Champs (i think thats the race that its debuting in, if not please correct me.) to see how it does. they still have some bugs to work out, but from what i hear from the touring car guys, Team Magic has A++ customer service. so you know they are working on it as of now.
As for the 8ight, thats personal preferance, it hands like a electric buggy, so i heard. ask to drive that 8ight you said you saw, and if you turn out a couple good laps might as well get it. Ive always wanted the M1-B |

Go with something that works for you. Any top buggy can win you races (Losi, Mugen, Jammin, Xray, TTR, Kyosho, etc.) It's really the driver and the setup.
As for the TM M1-B, I don't know too much about it, other then the fact that it is very innovative. There is a ton of features on that buggy that have never been seen before, so I'd wait for a little while until they straighten the kinks out. |

If you are going out with the intention of being a top contender for race wins consistently I think it would be hard for many to put a definate stamp on the M1 for the win. This is due to the fact that so few have them or are familiar with TM at all. They also have yet to have a MAJOR international race series position...which would grab more peoples attention. Take note however that one of them was recently run in the U.K National championships and was contending for the top spot most of the time...this included squaring off against some other FULL factory drivers. The M1 was piloted by (Crompton if i rmbr correctly) some1 who was obviously a great racer...but I know not much else. He is affiliated with TM though, may be the distributor. Either way, late i nthe race he got i na major tangle and damaged the car and began falling back. Still grabbed 5th.....1st went to a new RC8!
TM also has magnificent customer support as mentioned by TGreg. They are smaller as well so they really try and keep touch with the consumer, they also have AWESOME style which IMO is important too if you are not worrying about winning the main every time ;). TM even released what they called the "spares pack" which fixes many of the original issues with the buggy and then makes some running improvements along the way.....at no cost to the customer. :D If you want a very original design with good customer support (if you are i nthe States you will have to go through Trinity for some things I believe [X(] ) and stand out from the crowd....this would be a shoe in. Performance wise however...still has something to prove...but great potential is there. Anyway, just my 2% of the $. This machine looks interesting. |

RE: Team Magic M1-B?
I just finished assembling mine. I have to say it is one of the most "beautiful" buggies I've seen. Very nice finished parts.
I like the way they kept all the items on the deck as low as possible and spread out across the entire chassis. They did have a few problems with the early production kits, but Team Magic does have excellent customer support. They sent out a "loyalty" pack that included some replacement parts and spares. I'd say if you were to buy it, it'd be close to 100 bucks. Spare diff gears, diff pinions, arms, fuel tank, just to name a few. There are a couple things that I notice right off the bat that might be an issue; The chassis seems to have a bit much fore and aft flex. Some lateral is fine but I'm not sure that having fore and aft is a good thing. My ST-R had some of that and it cause all kinds of issues from broken fuel tanks to grinding diff pinions. Driving it will be telling... There aren't any aftermarket parts that I've seen. When you see one in person, its hard to imagine there'd be anything you'd want to replace. As others have stated you can go wrong with any of the top buggies. Crompton in the UK is doing very well with his. I've had a MBX5 Prospec and really liked it. I hear the new MBX5 is supposed to be awesome. As much as I like my M1B, if I had another choice it'd be a MBX5 (whatever the newest version is) |
