READY FOR THE TRACK!!! Need Help On Seting Up!!!

Ok so most of u know me for building fast buggies........BUT besides that ive actually gotten into this whole track raceing thing!!! i use to run a turmoil pro with a cheapo HPI 4.1 motor but now i stepped up the game to a more high end buggy......i kept the turmoil and im now useing it on the street i was useing a mayhem but the parts where very VERY worn out........so i kept it for spare parts and its thrown in a box now............but for the track i picked up a used MBX5 and threw in a OS 21 VSPEC i had laying around the house with my JP-3 pipe.........today i set up my shocks and diffs installed everything and painted my new body i have a few people at the track useing this buggy so i was able to get some good info on what fluids to start out with......either way i jsut wanted to show it off tell me what u guys think

PS this is almost a prospec i just need the rear uprights and its a full prospec...........i also have one quick question what is the diffrence between the MBX5 AND MBX5R??? and can i convert my MBX5 into a R???? what would be the advantage???

I like the pattern on that body. What mask is that?

I believe its one of the new proline silk screen bodies. The pattern is already on the body, all that's necessary is to spray a single main colour. I like it too, very nice.

I see no reason why that wouldn't whoop anything at your local track :D (unless you can't drive it [&:] )
Nice buggy mate

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! CHECK OUT MY NEW MBX5!!! PICSS!

Yes the body is one of those PROLINE PRE SCREEN and Yes its the light blue tamyia color......but if i where to do it again i wouldnt use the tamiya color since it was a little to strong it actually ate up the printing on the body a little bit......

either way thanks for the support people!!!!

The difference from MBX5 and the MBX5R is that the MBX5R is the replacement for the Prospec. Your already almost there!!! Very nice ride and it will be a mean ride on the track

the mbx5 R is designed for bumpy tracks while the prospec is designed more for the smooth groomed track. the R has a more laid down shock setup, longer shocks - more travel & droop. stronger steering links, different bellcrank design, slightly different engine mounting location & centre diff location, different arms, different chassis. there is a full ist of different parts on Carolinas RC, they sell a conversion kit, but honestly it's not worth it. I run a prospec & an R & i get my best times with my prospec. for the cost of the upgrade kit you may as well save up & buy the full R version. JMHO. they are both awesome kits, but designed for different conditions.

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! CHECK OUT MY NEW MBX5!!! PICSS!

Ok guys i need ur help i was running my buggy at the track and it was GREAT it serously worth every penny and is a COMPLETLY diffrent buggy than the turmoil but im haveing one small problem

when comeing out of a turn and i hit the gas the car back trys to over power the front......also in the turns i cant pull off a smooth slide but instead i whipe out and do a dohnut i talked to a few people at my track and set up the diffs the way they have it witch is Front 3 center 7 and rear 2 (i have a smaller tight track) also i put 35WT oil in the front and 30WT oil in the back (this is what they suggested) also my toe out in the front is 2 degrees and toe in the rear is 2.5 degrees........and the camber is also -2 all around...

what do you think about this set up???? what are you guys useing??? im just looking for a second opinion........im going to try this new set up wensday and see what it does!

PS i just won a MBX5T prospec truggy today on ebay and yes this will be my second track car (this one is not for the street) so if anyone have and advise on seting it up PLEASE let me know!!!

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! Need Help On Seting Up!!!

lighten up your center diff. this will allow more power to be sent to the front out of a turn and the back wont overpower the front. you will however lose some steering

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! Need Help On Seting Up!!!

For the the spinning problem try dropping down the center diff oil a bit, it will sned more power to the front. Might lose a bit of on-power steering, but with the problems ur haivng youve got alot right now. Also, i mght reccomend you take 1-.5 degrees of toe-in out of the front. Tell me how the Mugen/OS combo runs at the track, im thinking of either getting the MBX5R, or the kyosho WC. Just i rember hearing a bunch of stuff about v-spec problems causing them to die in 3 gallons, have they fixed it, or is that a rare happening?

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! Need Help On Seting Up!!!

one more thing you could try is put maybe .5-.75 degree more toe in in the rear. it will help lock it in better

RE: READY FOR THE TRACK!!! Need Help On Seting Up!!!

the 2-3 gallon "rumor" is the front bearing goes out in these engines around 2-3 gallon's..try a heavier oil up front like 5-6-2...see how that does our local indoor track is pretty tight and in my jammin x1cr I ran 5-7-2...my 8ight I run 4-5-2 for the tight tracks..and 5-7-2 on more open out door tracks...let us know in the pix it looks like you have alot of "toe out"...maybe its the camera playing tricks on me

wel the day i took it i actually didnt do anything to the buggy i tryed running the set up it had when i got it (i bought it used) and the guys set up was horrible i have done the new set up but havent tryed it i should be fine tho since im running the exact set up a friend of mine runs at the track and he has won many races so if i cant do it its becuase i suck as a driver:D

about the motor i got it used also (found a hell of a deal on ebay late one night) and it runs great lord.... knows how much fuel is on the motor but i know ive put a little over half a gallon and its fine...........i keep hearing rumors about the engine bearins and loosing compration quickly but i havent had either problem yet........i plan on buying the ceramic bearing for this motor (from that place in kendall they cost about 40 bucks not OS ones of course not becuase i need it but becuase i just like the performace better) and about the compration issue there is a guy at the track with a pincher tool (a REAL HEAVY DUTIE ONE WITH ALL THE TAPS NEEDED) and he brings it to the track every time he charges 20 bucks and repinchs the motor on the spot (this is the only reson i bought the used 21 since he only has dies for 21 size motors) the 21 Vspec runs great with the JP-3 pipe i let a few people drive my buggy and they where all VERY IMPRESSED i think i was the first to show up at the track with an OS 21 .........everyone mostly runs the novarossi P5 and ninja 21.....im really geting into this offroad stuff if u got any questions holla at me yo peace

also for the price (if ur buying it new) i would go with either the P5 or the ninja 21 i only use the OS becuase i bought it for so dam cheap but the OS will still run right next to the other 2 motors
