Diff leaking?
 

I just got my first RC car (kyosho inferno US sports RTR) and as soon as I opened the box could see a wet spot on the bottom of it. Looking with attention at the car could see some humidity right below the front diff. Is there a chance the oil has leaked? Is there any way to be sure the diff is full with oil without putting the car apart?

I would just go ahead and take it apart. If there is a leak it won't stop leaking until you fix it. My dad's hyper 7 came with leaking shocks and he had to fix that but ever since then it's been smooth sailing. This will also be a learning experience, you will get to know your car better in the process. While your at it you could also change your center diff and rear diff as well, but it's not necessary. A good guideline for your diff setup would be 5/7/1(or 2) front/center/rear. Welcome to RC!

No, in fact I recommend you go through and inspect every screw. That RTR is notorious for parts being loose out of the box, but any RTR you should do this also. For the diffs, fill them 5-7-3 to start.

By 5-7-3, I mean 5000 front, 7000 middle, and 3000 rear.

Hey guys, I just got a Hurricane XP. I notice that the suspension is weak. When I push down on the front, bottom out, it stays. The back returns slowly. What is a good wt oil for the shocks? The bottom front of mine had a heavy oil on it, as well as the tires.

That means they are leaking. You need to rebuild them. As for oil, I have never heard of it, but you can try 40wt front and 35rear.

use spacers on your springs as this really governs the "spring" in the suspension more so than the shock oil. I'd also suggest going through an RTR and loctite all screws and check the shock and diffs etc.

With that leaking diff, you'll have to take it and check the seals. Whilst you've got it out, put some proper diff oil in stead of the factory grease. The difference in handling is superior.

dtsn280z , the shock oil won't make the car come up, the springs do. mozzy said it, you need spacers to increase tension from the springs and raise the car up a bit, sounds like you need about 10mm total to start. Add spacers till the lower arm is parallel to the ground or slightly higher, just eyeball it on a table or something. Push it down and i will rise up.

Hey Thanks guys, As it turns out the shocks have the adjustable spacer on them. Did a 10mm like suggested and went with 50 in the front and 40 in the back. Seems to have cured the issue. I'll do the difs as soon as I can tear it down. For now, three tanks and going easy with it. Looking forward to bashing soon.

I'm about as new as the car so I'm sure I'll be asking more questions :eek:

Another vote for checking everything on an RTR. I bought the Eight RTR more for the package deal, but I must have spent just as much time fixing their mistakes, as it would have taken to build a kit.
