Do different exhaust really have any performance effect?

I was thinking of changing my exhaust on my Kyosho. Mainly because it keeps falling of due to not haveing the lumps in the end to hold the rubber joiner on.
This led me to looking at alternative exhaust sytems for the car.
I read things like 20% increase in performance with some brands etc., which I find rather hard to believe so I ask the question to those of you that have changed yours for uprated tuned pipes and what difference it has actually made to your buggy?

Different pipe and header combos make a huge change.

very true...different pipes and headers will make a HUGE difference in how an engine performs...some are so large, you would not think it was the same motor...

While the correct pipe will give your engine a power boost you must remember that a gain will only be obtained if the old pipe was deficient. If the pipe currently fitted is already pretty good you might get no power increase. Having said that I would expect that the stock pipe on a RTR would not be optimised, therefore a gain is probably a fair bet with an upgraded pipe.
