1/8 Electric Conversion

I am looking to convert a 1/8th buggy to electric and have a few questions for those experienced in this. First, which 1/8th car works best for the electric conversions? I have primarily been considering the RC8 and 8ight. Mainly because I can get parts pretty easily. However, I am open to other suggestions.

Secondly, if there aren't any budgetary constraints, what is the best motor, ESC, and lipo (4s, 5s, etc) combo? I currently drive an Rusty VXL on 3s Lipo so I am used to doing 50-60 mph speeds up and down my street and higher speeds in open areas. I am looking for similar performance out of the 1/8th on the street. HOWEVER, I do plan to race the buggy occassionally as well, so I need a set up that works great going from the track to the street. Maybe just switching gears and going from 4s to 5s/6s.

Remember, I am not necessarily on a tight budget, so performance and reliability is more the concern than cost. I am not looking to blow up a motor and ESC after five minutes. So, if you could build a dream 1/8th electric conversion for the needs I listed above, what components would you use?

Thanks.

RE: 1/8 Electric Conversion

RCU is great for most stuff, but the real 1/8 conversion experts hang out here:

And the following is a link to a great FAQ page at RC Product Designs. You can buy parts there too:

RE: 1/8 Electric Conversion

www.rc-monster.com is the best complete resource for 1/8 brushless info. Most of the current standard setups, etc that everyone is running came from there.

The one thread on rctech is good too, for specific 1/8 buggy talk.

The best place used to be radiocontrolzone... and still a lot of good info in old threads.

There are so many options for you I don't know where to start. In the near future I expect to have a factory-built 1/8 electric buggy or at least a factory-made conversion. This is for one of the "other" brands though... not AE,Losi,Kyosho,Ofna...
