ROAR Racing rules

I am thinking about getting a 1/8th buggy to race. The track I want to go to says they abide by ROAR rules. So i checked out the ROAR website and it says that engine size is .21 open.. what does open mean? every RTR ive looked at has .26 or .28 engines.. So are those cars illegal?? thanks for the help...

The buggy itself may be legal but the engine size is not. Open means the engine can be from stock to modified.

thank you. So why are all these new buggies coming out with larger engines? doesnt make any sense..

Because manufacturers are starting to lean more toward the backyard basher rather than the racer for their RTRs. They know that most serious racers will just buy the roller / kit version and add their own electronics anyways.

The GS Storm Evo and Storm CL-1 are the only buggies I know of that come with a .21 stock.

There are plenty more such the Hyper 8 with the Hyper .21 3-port.

Well, since you start this thread now i want to ask something. What rules are the more restricted? ROAR? EFRA? IFMAR? I see a lot of those names in youtube in racing. Here in my country, we race IFMAR rules in onroad. IFMAR is just for onroads? What is for offroads then? A little help here

YOu have a few things to consider. RTR's generally are not going to be up to race standards anyway as far as duribility and power. They use cheaper stamped parts and fairly low quality over sizeed engines that are cheap to build and include in the kit. After all RTR's are all about cost point. Your including a radio and engine, unless you want a $800 RTR you have to cut corners somewhere.

On the other side too you also have the noob factor. Like JMcDonald said, RTR's are geared toward the basher, not the racer. Most noobs are pretty much backyard bashers.

Then you have the "size matters" factor.

IMO A noobish basher buying for the 1st time will look at that engine size and think that a 26, 28, or 32 will be more powerful and faster than a 21 (VERY NOT TRUE). So you get the RTR crowd buying the buggies with the biggest engine they can get....

well that sucks for those of us on a budget... I havent seen a kit or race roller that i could put together for less that $500.. I dont have $1000 to spend on a good set up. I just want something reliable.. I think i am leaning towards a truggy now that i have looked around.

Here is a link to a race roller http://www.highbanksrc.com/servlet/t...-X-Race/Detail If you put a go tech .21 in it along with a DX2 spektrum youll be in your budget range.

Hmmm

$279 roller
$199 engine
$169 DX2

Still $650 not counting there is no way i would buy a buggy that has little if no local parts support (like VTX[:'(])

Then you still have
+ fuel
+ Batteries
+ Charger

Even that cheap your looking at $750 or more easy.....

Budget a $1000 to get started in racing.

RE: ROAR Racing rules

local parts? The internet is cheaper and most of the time the lhs has to order parts anyways. There is nothing wrong with Team VTX, there support is great and the price is right. Its Still 300 dollars less than what everyone else was puposing.................... The other thing is that he good get the .21 go tech turbo 7 port for 209. Thats a bad ***** motor

I know what you mean but THERE IS a RTR hyper 8 with the hyper .21 engine on. My cousin has the 8.5 with that engine too.

I have to agree with SManMTB. If you look at everything you will need to race and be atleast semi competative it would be around $1000.00. Between Chassis, engine (W/O onboard starting system), starter box, tuned pipe, servos ( and not cheap ones ), transmitter and receiver, fuel, glow plugs, glow starter, batteries, all needed charging devices, and I personaly like to have atleast one replacement part for everything on my buggy ( I don't like to pay an entry fee and go home early due to mechanical failure). It cost a lot of money to get serious in this hobby. You can get an RTR and have fun, but you won't be able to race out of the box for a low amount.

RE: ROAR Racing rules

I agree with hrdcoreglf, If I were to add everything all up it would be around $1800 and still growing constantly, I even had a radio already before I bought my last buggy(10 yrs ago I was in the $2500) range. This hobby is an addiction for most!!!!
