8ight qustions

Just signed up and would like to ask some qustions that hopfully some of you pro guys can answer for me. Currently I have an 8ight RTR buggy and I am looking at some upgrade parts. First off clutch bearings: Amain only sells the Losi set of in/out or (front/back) and then packs of 10 5X13X4 rubber or metal shieled bearings. Are the 5X13X4 the in/front or the out/back bearings? And depending on which they are is there anyone that sells the others in large cheaper packs? Also is the metal shield beter for clutches because of the heat, or rubber for maintinance for reusing them? My 8ight is 99% used for just bashing so I'm trying to make it as bullet proof as possible, are carbon fiber brakes just for bling or beter then the glass fiber? Going with the bullet proof theme I've already planned if not ordered some random Alum. peices like shock towers and shock caps. Anything else that should be on the top of the list without spending a racers budget? Like the Alum. front spindles, worth $40, or just get 4 sets of plastic spares for the same price? I already killed the throttle servo so thats not a concern as well I have the GMK CVD condoms, no worry about pins now. Thanks for reading all of this. I'll post up some pics of everything once its all here.

So you own a 8IGHT RTR and don't know which bearing is which.......very sad. Try taking the clutch bell off and learing a thing or two about your ride.
As for the whole bearing thing, pro-tek sell 10 packs for both sizes. Clutch bearings take a severe pounding and don't last too long so don't think they will be there for a long time. If you try and use them when they are bad they can stall your motor and you will wonder what is going.
I get one race day from my clutch bearings, which adds up to about maybe an hours use if I take it easy and try and be really smooth on the throttle.
The best aluminum options would definately be the shock towers, shock caps (top and bottom), rear bearing inserts, centre bearing adapter, alum. servo horn and maybe the servo saver top but I haven't even put one on mine yet.
The stock plastic parts are fine, I wouldn't worry about getting the aluminum ones but if you like all that stuff then go nuts.
I haven't brocken any plastic parts yet after 14 months of racing and general use. The CVD condoms are a great idea and have them on both of mine.
I haven't tried carbon disks mainly because I still have good brakes with the stock ones.

The rear clutch bearing is 5x13. The front clutch bearing is the smaller 5x10 which is a standard size for most buggies. www.carolinasrc.com sells 10-packs of both. For the front bearing, I run ones with a rubber shield facing out with a metal shield on the other side. This helps keep dirt out and helps dissipate heat. I run full metal shielded bearings for the bigger one for better heat dissipation since it's not as exposed as the front bearing.

Alloy shock caps are a good idea since those are a common weak point on the RTR.

Thanks for the sizes and the web site link K_B. After doing a bit of research I did find some info on metal vs. rubber shielding. Rubber out and metal in makes sense now. Alum. shock caps are in the mail. And losiben, I am trying to learn about my ride but without super accurate calipers its hard to measure the bearings when they arent labeled even from Losi.

911 thats the first place I looked. To bad it was in the RTR manual. It only says there sold in sets. The online manual for the kit is much beter. Thanks for the hint.

You need to set up your clutch better if you get one race out of your bearings.
