Golden rule... Whoever holds the gold makes the rules. Plenty of other forums out there where you can use your X-Ray avatar. Good luck with that.

Yea RCU is getting super anal. I cant even use my sponser in my sig it wont show up.

RE: not fair

The thing I think gets a bit Anal on is when some one wants information on somthing and you give them a link to a forum that has the information they will remove the link. I think it is just Hitlerish and makes me want to frequent the other forums more. It is just lame information is information. TO me I look at it this way one hand washes the other. But they look at it like THAT FORUM is in our territory so you can not post that in here.

hmm, i see where your coming from. But i also think this is one of the cleanest and easyist to undestand forums i have ever seen. Mostly down to the fact that you arent allowed crazy sized avitars and pictures in you sigs (that really annoys me). i remember getting told off for having the word cen in my avatar [:@]. it was nice to! it was the matrix (movie) green writing that said matrix and the cen logo imposed above it.

First, everyone needs to remember that this website hold two functions: To allow the free-flow of information regarding all things R/C, and second to put food on someone's plate. As such, there have to be rules. Rules to keep the widest possible audience coming to the forums, and rules to keep the advertising money coming in.

If you owned a business, would you allow your competitors free advertising within your business? Would you allow an outsider to promote a competitor inside your business? I should hope not. Allowing images representing non-banner advertisers doesn't make a lot of sense from a business standpoint - why allow someone free advertising? Same for allowing links to competitive forums. You might just as well ASK people to go somewhere else. Fewer hits = less advertising revenue. However, it is in the best interests of our members to allow links to those other sites that directly answer a question. So those are allowed, unless the site requires you to sign up to view. Again, that would be tantamount to asking members to go elsewhere...

I was about to delete the thread, but I believe this is valuable information that perhaps some members cannot understand. So I have reiterated it here instead. There are no rules in place meant to single anyone out, member or otherwise. When someone is asked to comply with the rules, and they disregard that request, then you have issues where someone has certain aspects of their membership removed. I am sure most of you would be surprised to see just how many people sign up on RCU with no other intention than to spam the site with advertising their product/forum etc. Try going into Mc D's with a sign that says "Whoppers are 10 x's better than a Big Mac" and see how long it takes before you are asked to leave...

If anyone has any questions about the why's and wherefore's of the rules, please feel free to PM me or one of the other mods.

I understand what your saying rc, but this is like Mcdonalds kicking a customer out of there store because they are wearing a burger king shirt. I can see if they blatantly advertise stuff, but the tiny pics and the letter sigs are hardly noticable. I rarely ever look at them. Then again I never click add links either.

:D If you had a modelshop, and there was another modelshop across town, would you advertise for them in your shop?
not starting a war here, but im completely on rcu's side with this one.

I have a sign shop and If I a customer that comes in looking for something I can not do for Him I point him to a shop that can do it for him. Plain and simple. I dont just tell them sorry cant do it your SOL. And them customers do come back because they like the honesty. One hand washes the other. But that being said people can run their business anyway they like.

RE: not fair

hmm i see where your coming from there, and i like your attitude. but its not as if rcu is providing any service to anyone, they just advertise for who pay them, and wont advertise who dont. (im trying to word this in the politest way..not really working haha!)

tonytiger 05-02-2008 06:17 PM

RE: not fair

id like to add the following......my avitar was a car maker not a forumn competitor...to say that takes food of the table of the sites owner is ludicrous...it has alot more to do with the poster's identity than advertising....some may think its foolish and petty but i just dont see it that way....why not say you cant mention a brand name period unless they are a paid advertiser....why not ban all threads containing the word losi or mugen or kyosho.....unless they all pay as advertisers of course......or dont talk about an engine company that doesent pay either.....does anyone see where this is going....

i was told in a private pm that this is the biggest and best site there is...im sorry but that just isnt true....it may have more members but 80% of them are noobs..and they ask the same dumb questions all the time......"whats the best buggy" ...... there are other sites which i wont mention cuz it will ruffle some feathers...but they cater to the racers.....free speech flows ...your choice of avitar is up to you as an individual ....censorship only exist if there is a call for censorship....i know cuz i moderate the worlds largest truggy only site....short of swear words or porn we dont have to censor much......rc universe mods are natorious for there mis use of there powers....which drives people to rebel and come right back at them with something....this site has the most flame throwin af all sites as well..you just dont see that on some of the other sites....

to the advertisers who do pay ..im sorry i violated the rcu policy.....please e mail me for a free coupon to mcdonalds id like to repay you for the food i took of your tables(offer only good to paid advertisers) other than checking back for a few days on a response to this post i wont be back here again...see everyone at the track

RE: not fair

It does seem kinda strange to ban avatars. Seeing someones avatar does not make me want to go out and buy something from that company. I been to plenty of other websites that have huge amounts of traffic and have to feed somone but don't have such strange rules. I guess its their sandbox and can do whatever they feel like. If we don' like it we all have the ability to go elsewhere.
