I do not know how much you are looking to spend but the [link=http://www.holeshothobbies.com/servlet/the-6/Caster-Racing-ZX1-dsh-R-RTR/Detail]Caster Racing ZX1-R RTR buggy[/link] is a awesome RTR buggy. Comes with all 6061 CNC 4mm aluminum including the shock towers and crimefighter tires and a race legal .21 motor. It has a reputation for great handling and stability on the track!

Are you bashing or racing??? If you plan on doing some racing I would suggest the Caster over the Losi and I own a Losi (kit though) the Losi RTR's need too much upgrading for competitive racing, not saying they cant hang or anything but they don't come with a .21 engine, and again too much upgrading is needed to race at a competitive level, a great basher though!!!

I had a Losi 8ight too and sold it after driving the Caster ZX1-R! I do not miss the Losi at all and am extremely happy with my decision. I can run faster laps and buggy is SO much more stable.

Woohoo! Way to sell your product!

But I beg to differ, I think the CEN Matrix is the best bang for the buck! It comes with a SH .28 engine, metal gear servos, and an Airtronics MX-3 FM 3 channel radio.

Look at my sig. I sell caster too but I do not go and say stuff like that. I always try and give a valid reason why I like or say the stuff I say. Not all this "hands down, tough, Fast, etc......" know what I mean?

RE: What buggy?

New to nitro myself,

1st. buggy was an 1/10th ebay taiwan special by DNA racing I know you've never heard of them nor has anyone else. Ironically it came with a Go .18 that screams and whipped my buddies redcat like he stole something. However it was cheap like $90 and it handled like a $90 car, but it got me hooked Nitro= Crack. I'm never going to rehab! So I wanted to upgrade read about the XTM and being the most BANG for the buck found a used one on ebay and bought it for $130.
It was a major upgrade and I mean major upgrade for me at the time. Ignorance being bliss. It is nice if your new and have relatively no knowledge.

However after running there buggy you start to find the quirks and learn what a good buggy should be.

1. The one way bearing on there 24.7 engine is seated inside engine and gets oily and slips when you go to start w\pullstart upgrading it to a torque starter fixes the problem mostly. but why should I have to spend another $40 bucks.

2. The cirrus servos don't last long replaced mine with futaba's

3. The cirrus radio well its a cirrus radio enough said.

4. The car is built well if your looking for entry level for the money RTR it is a good deal. The bad part is if you find you like buggies you will end spending more money to get a better buggy. Spend the money the 1st time out worse case you don't like it and you have a quality buggy to sell and get you something else.

5. You will have to upgrade engine to a .21 if you ever plan to race it.

6. The 24.7 Screams once you get it started but a race built .21 will smoke it lake phat cigar.

7. Out of all the so called XTM dealers 18 or more in my area NC, SC & VA area no one had a basic part like a HSN or carb, piston and sleeve for what supposed to be there flagship motor you basically have to go through XTM to get parts. HSN were on back order when I needed one had to go to my LHS and matchup a traxxas HSN and use it, however the traxas needle did work. Had to rebuild motor due to it was use and bought on the usual lie "I've only run 1\2 a gallon through it". Not XTM's fault. There are far better buggy's on the market and I myself am researching for my next purchase.

Do I like the buggy HECK YEAH it's my main car I only have 2 lol. Would I buy another after aquiring the knowledge I have now NO!

My thoughts and opinions can be backed up by visiting the XTM forum at http://globalservices.globalhobby.co...00509c62bf3905

Thanks

Vlad

RE: What buggy?

IMO it's hard to beat the ofna entry level buggies for bang for your buck. I got my ravager from RCplanet for 299 and it's got a torquey .28 and I haven't broken anything even from 20' long jumps. Of course if you wanna race what you're getting it wouldn't be so great...

RE: What buggy?

I really don't have a certain buggy to suggest to you but one thing you might want to look at is parts availability in your area... Although these buggys are all tough they do break and wear out parts and if you have to wait on a simple part for a week or so it may put you off of the hobby..

Argess 05-23-2008 12:36 PM

RE: What buggy?

I started with the OFNA Ultra.....I really think their next one up (the Ravager) should be their lowest entry level, and the Ultra dropped. The Ravager is definately a quality built unit.

RE: What buggy?

buggies arent too different from stadium trucks, primarilly they have a far lower ride than a stadium and most all come stock adjustable spoiler.

RE: What buggy?

Well its not just because I sell XT2's for all those over educated people who know by some cosmic source what a persons avitar is all about :D I sell 4 different 1/8 buggies out of my shop, but only XTM on line. All of the other models exceed the $360 to $599. The XT2 sells for $339 its has a pretty good engine and if it had as good an engine as the high priced Buggy it would be very comprable. XT2 is very durable and takes a beating as well as the rest. And just to be fair it is like 70% of the rest of the buggies on the market, a new radio and servo's do make a better product for compitition.

Yea it takes a long time for me to answer some times, I only come to the Buggy threads about once a week...................sometimes I am busy selling Ofna, Traxxas, HPI and a lot of other garbage ...........LOL

RE: What buggy?

I just wanted to follow up on my original post.

Like I said the buggy is well built, contrary to what others have said. However it does have some issues definately you will need a roto starter and new servos if cirrus servos are inside your car. Its an outstanding basher as my video will show you. I am posting the vid cause I don't want you or anyone to think the car is all bad. All RTR's have there downsides there are no exception to this rule. Ultimately make your choice and get addicited like everyone else.

In the Vid I'm on top of a 20ft hill that has quite an incline. You want see during the film the car actually took a tumble down the hill. Cameraman was'nt on his job, it happened during the video but he missed it. Also you want see it kicking up al the rocks and dust and how bumpy it really was on the top of the hill. However you will see the car kicking but and taking names. From the words of the cameraman you can tell even he was amazed at what the car could do. He's currently shopping for an 1/8 scale I guess it sold him to.

Anyways I would just say buy one of any brand that fits your wallet and enjoy.

RE: What buggy?

One thing you have to think about when getting into new RC equipment, is the cost to run the equipment. The cost of running a buggy can by far surpass the purchase price. My recommendation is to buy the strongest buggy on the market, even if it cost you a bit more than you expected to spend. You will save way more money later when needing less individual parts for replacement from breakage or maintenance. I would also purchase a low end race model motor from a reputable manufacturer, instead of running the RTR stuff. These motors last longer and will allow you to learn the Break-in/tuning/air cleaner and other .21 size motor issues for a descent price. After saying all this I think my main point is "do it right the first time" and skip the RTR.
So spend money on the Buggy and Control system save money everywhere else. They aren't called radio controlled cars for nothing... the control part, is very important.

That said....

Have to agree with Xray on this. Get A kit. I have over 5 gallons on my 8ight and have broken a rod end and bent a cvd and thats it. I am at my local track at least 2 weekends a month and have plenty of good days with out problems. Spend the extra money. Good luck.

+1;) Spend more initially, spend less in the long run. You also end up with a super competitive buggy!

RE: What buggy?

If racing competetively is what you want then Xray X8B or 808 is the way to go for sure,Losi 8ight is awesome too.If your on a budget and want to compete with the bigger brands then it has to be Caster ZX-1.The XTM XT2 is a pretty strong buggy for bashing but too old for racing aswell as being too heavy, the GV Rex-X is the same buggy and both have their fans,I owned a Rex-X and liked it a lot, apart from the diffs going it was a great basher.I now own a HBX VRX-2 Pro that quite simply is the best i've had and that includes Hypers,HB Lightning Pro and a few others, its he only buggy i've had that I dont want to sell after a month of owning it....

Ditto on the comments by Mr Terminator, Falcon XR, maxxman77 and XrayDriver.

Get the most you can afford. Don't be like me wishing you had have spent the extra dough. A month later wanting something better. Well you've heard it from a Noob and some long time vets. Let us know what you got and how it worked out. Check craigslist in your area you will find some good deals and you will be able to go see what your getting.
