Hyper 8.5
I have searched old threads and I am still confused. First of all I am new to this so I have an idea about things but dont fully understand some things. I am about to order a Hyper 8.5 Pro kit with a Hyper .21 8 port race engine with rear exhaust, Futaba 3PM Trans/Rec, Hitec HSC-5998 Titanium Gear Ultra Torque Servo S. What throttle servo would I need for this set up and if I am missing anything what else do I need to have it running once put together. I am not racing but will in the future thats why I went with the pro kit.

I have the Hyper 8.5 pro kit as well and the same transmitter/receiver mate. I LOVE IT:D. When it comes to the throttle servo, IMO it doesn't really need a lot of torque strength there. I use a 12.0 kg torque strength servo and find that's more than enough. What does matter is servo speed. You want a servo that will go through it's full motion as quickly as possible. I use the JR DS8715. it's full motion response time is 0.09 seconds/60 degrees. I'm sure there are quicker and better ones out there, but it depends on what you can find at your LHS. If you're not racing, your engine and pipe are more than enough. Later when it comes time to upgrade, all you'll need to do is get a race engine and exhaust and practice, practice, practice.... I personally recommend the OS Speed 21VZ-B V-SPEC AL with either an OS 2060 SC pipe or JR3 pipe[>:]. Again, it depends on what your LHS carries. Convenience goes a long way in this endeavour. Tires are chosen for track conditions as are shock springs, shock oils and DIFF oils. Oh and remember....practice, practice, practice. 80% of winning is driving....[&:]. You could have the absolutely best set up costing upwards of 5K, but it doesn't count for much if your car is always upside down, eh? |

I still feel unsure of the whole thing I guess what I'm really trying to find out is lets say I scrap the servo I mentioned, what would be a good servo combination for this truck (you do need 2 servos.... correct?)

Right :D You need a servo on steering more than 200 oz/inc, and as for the throttle/braking one, its speed must be at least .13, so better buying one that has .10 speed. The servo on throttle/braking must have at least 130 oz/inc torque by the way. Now for the speed of the steering servo, a .14 is good enough i think. Too fast servos in steering can make your buggy flip somehow.

Ok so would that make the servos different for each or can you use the same servos for each but doesn't make sense because you dont need the same amount torque on the throttle/brake servo.

Sorry but you confused me with that you said :D I'm just saying that you need a lot of torque at steering, and a good speed at throttle/braking so you have good throttle responses. The speed of the steering mustn't very great because you may have oversteer or something problems, and the torque in throttle/braking mustn't be very great too because it's overkilling. If your brakes are good, then a 5625 hitec servo is good (like mine, but i recommend more torque because i have it too, but anyway, the brakes varies, it depends on your braking system)

Ya buddy, you need two servos. Keep them the same brand, but different models. There are different kinds at different price ranges, ones with plastic gears, ones with metal/titanium gears and digital ones. Use two different kinds, same make, but different torques and response speeds. Talk to the store you're buying it from and ask them for their opinion. It depends on what's available in your local market as well. JR9000 range is considered amongst some of the best, Futaba digitals also up there. Hi-techs are good as well. Everyone has an opinion and personal choice about almost everything related to this sport mate. Also, keep in mind that some servo arms don't fit all servos. So make sure you get servo arms made for the servos you're running. And make sure the screw that goes through the servo arms fits the hole... Your LHS (local hobby store) should be more than happy to point you in the right direction and explain all the reasons for the different requirements for the servos on you car. Satisfied customers tend to return with more business. And as far as your choice in car...you'll love it;) |

You can see which is analog and which is digital. Digital are stronger than analog. Digital servos are better. A few guys saying that analog is better because if something happen to servo, the analog are cheap enough to replace it, but i ran 5 years digital and no problem occured. The requirements that the servo must have are those i told you. Is nothing to confuse by ;)

If you dont have a buggy now and want one don't wait for the hyper 9. the 9 won't be out till august hopefully, and you will want it out on the market for sometime before you buy one, look at the rc8 for an example, when it first came out it had durability issues and fuel tank issues, AE has fixed that since.
I bought a hyper 8.5 pro yesterday, all new from a hobby shop in a great deal. Hyper 8.5 pro, Novarossi 821 Modified, Jammin Jp4 pipe, painted body for $625. as many people might know I was stuck trying to find a buggy for months, rc8, hyper, rc8,hyper, xray 808, etc, etc. it went back and forth, I finally bought the buggy and am happy now, I looked it over and like the design, I have seen them in action and I KNOW they are durable. I say go with the hyper 8.5 pro and don't wait for anythign else, Xray 808, $599 pricey and if dont have one ordered yet, you won't see one till late july, but they are AMAZING buggies. RC8,$469, getting there, AE has just announced big bore shocks for it and will be releasing a new tank for it. Hyper 8.5 pro,$399, prob the best bang for the buck, yea the hyper 9 is coming out but give it a few months on the market, Mugen MBX5R its a mugen, old buggy, still winning and still a tank....what more can i say? also a bit pricey $550, but a new buggy has been announced. Kyosho 777, $alot, this thing jumped and cleareda house and didnt break, umm durable? i think so, also a proven winner, BUT kyosho has the new MP9 coming out soon. When I picked up my buggy, the shop owner told me that today is not like it was a few years ago where mugen and kyosho dominated everything in every category, today anything you get is built alot better than it used to be and can win and last a long time. umm...Im tired of typing. Edit: BTW, I went with an Ace DS 1015 servo (200oz .10sec) for steering and an Ace DS1313 (173oz .13 sec) for throttle, I know the 173oz is overkill for throttle, but I didn't realize this until I bought it, but these servos are great servos for under $100. Edit #2: Also remember this, you can make a fast servo slower, but you can't make a slow servo faster... and what pipe have you decided on? it comes with tires, but where are you running? if its a rough, dry track, get some crimefighters in XTR for tires, the stock hyper 8.5 pro tires will be bald slicks in a few laps. |

Don't need a prepainted buggy dude. Take the shell it came with, buy 3 cans of your favorite color and go with a solid paint job if you don't want to spend the time and effort with stencils and stuff. I've seen solid pearl white, metal flake blue, black and chrome....all were awesome. If you want to try your hand at painting, it's not that hard. Find a stencil set you like, ask questions and get on with it. You can check out my FIRST attempt at painting a shell in the "buggie pics" thread. Not the latest pages, back 2 or 3. Get alot of comments on it at the track:D. All that was done with spray cans, slightly modified stencils (originally, the stencils i had were for a Monster Truck Shell) and some free-hand stencils. Took me 2 days all in to sort out. Great satisfaction from it as well. Congrats on your new 8.5 by the way...;) |

\ I never said get one with a prepainted body... the deal I got already included a painted body, I paitn my own bodies I have an air brush and compressor, this one came with a bdoy that was painted, Im not gonna say no... also Osirisf16 they dont come pre-painted none of the 8.5 pro bodies are painted. the hobby shop where I bought mine opened up the 8.5 pro finished building it, put in an engine, and were selling it, I just happened to buy it, thats why the body was painted, but the buggy itself was brand new, never ran. |
