It's a great buggy for a beginner racer. It's easy to drive and very durable. If you really want to get into racing, a kit is a good idea. I went the RTR route, and after a while, I wish I would have gone with a kit.
The first things to change out would be the servos. the radio gear (MX3) is actually a very good radio. Hop ups to get are the CNC front knuckles, and CNC servo saver if the stock one breaks.
The buggy is competitive out of the box, but some better electronics and CNC front knuckles, it will be a very good buggy. Make sure that you clean the diffs and replace the grease with silicone oils for tuning. Eventually you can work on setup with different oils and suspension positions.
Good luck

I agree 100% with Chrobar. The Cen Matrix is a very good buggy for the money. I also went the RTR route and I was quickly dropping money into it for hop-ups. The RTR isn't a bad but you will definately have to upgrade the servos.

As Chrobar recommended I would get the CNC servo saver arm and front knuckles. If you are really thinking about getting into racing, I would highly recommend going with a kit.

If you decide to get the Matrix and you want to upgrade to the CNC steering knuckles, I have a set in like new condition I can sell you. I have a few items like front and rear CNC shock towers, carbon fiber radio tray, 19 degree carrier hubs. PM me if your interested.

I have one and love it. I would have bought the kit version but got a killer deal on mine off ebay. I had heard a lot of horror stories about the stock motor, so I immediatly swapped it out for a novarossi setup, and switched out the servos. I also put a different radio system in it, not because I didnt like the stock one, but I already use the Airtronics MX-3FHSS system in my truggy and wanted to be able to use the same radio for both cars.

I think they are very nice buggies. Come with decent servos and a good motor out of the box.

Yes, the newer buggy has all the updates, including a new motor- SH .28. It is a big improvement from the old one, and it's very powerful.
