Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
So after being in the hobby for 5 years now, I decided to actually spend some money (not much...) and get a new RTR kit (thanks Unckle Sam). Currently I've been bashing with an old Duratrax Axis that's been fairly good to me. I'm not into racing really, I have about 10 acres of pristine Tucson desert behind my house with plenty of areas to play. So I decided to buy the Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black. likny: [link=http://www.nitrohouse.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=9225]Nitrohouse Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black[/link] I was about 5 seconds from running my c.c. when I decided to hold off untill later today barring any dramatic stories from other owners of this buggy.
If anyone owns this Ofna, or knows a guy who does, please let me know if I should invest $300 or so into this buggy. Now remember, it's strictly bashing and maybe a friendly race or two at the local track. Thanks yall!!! Jay- |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Most everyone likes the Hyper 7 and for what you want I think it would work out just fine. If you know for sure you were going to start racing I would get something a little more updated but like I said, from you description, should be fine. People love them.

I think it's a perfect buggy for what you are looking to do. I am a big Hyper 7 fan and the buggy has received a resurgence in popularity recently due to the release of the Hyper 7 TQ black. The buggy is well built, there are upgrades and parts available and it is a good all around buggy. Do a search here for Hyper 7 TQ black using the search function and you will find quite a few threads about the buggy. I would do it.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Yeah man I bought a hyper 7 RTR and I liked the chassis and suspension set up and I upgraded the rest. people keep telling me Im foolish but I think the buggy is gonna run well. Ill be making a youtube video of the build with some driving at the end. Its worth it and the parts are still readily available.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Right on man. What I can't seem to find is many aftermarket aluminum hop-ups for it though...
UPS said it will be here in the am!!! I'm so stoked!! Jay- |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
I have one. Great buggy. Very very tough. Should suite your needs very well. I have upgraded all the servos and I upgraded the stock AM radio. The engine has plenty of power and parts for it are easy to find. Fun car to drive.

STALEFISH you have a PM...just dont get addicted.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
There are a TON of parts for the Hyper 7 if you know where to look. This is mine.
http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/hy7top.JPG Keep an eye out for Hyper 7 Pro parts, Paul Coleman Racing parts (OR PCR Racing) or Yannick TQ Pro parts. Plus some Hyper 8 parts are compatible. Any of the Big Bore shocks from other 1/8 scales will work. My H7 also has Hyper 8 front/rear CNC knuckles too. |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
I saw those CNC knuckles online, like $50... are they worth it? What are the most commonly broken parts?? And Finally, mine's a pull start, I do have a shaft starter, should I get the Ofna backplate for it or stick with the pullstart?
Jay- |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
CNC knuckles aren't worth $50 until you break the stock ones. I wouldn't go out and buy them before you need them.
I would start with the pullstarter. If it gets to be too much of a pain, you can always do the conversion later on. |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
the pull start is a pain at first. the engine has alot of compression and the pull start will be hard to pull. loosen your glow plug a tiny bit and you can pull it easier. then just tighten it back up when the car starts. i dont seem to have a problem with the pull start on my car. it always starts up really fast.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Well, it's here! UPS took their damn time, but it's all good. Here's a few pics of it:

I have a new lexan clear shell coming from Tower anyway. So far, all I did was swap out the factory wheels and tires for a set of Pro Line Badlands (grip like pinetar on a Louisville Slugger!) pre-mounted on some white wheels that I had to shoot black ASAP (while the motor was burning thru 2 tanks at idle). Since it was plenty dark, I didn't get a chance to run it yet, but I'll be hitting the park down from my office at lunch tomorrow. I'll make sure to get that on YouTube in the evening. So far I'm super stoked to get it out in the desert. And according to the manager at my local hobby shop, my Hyper will run the hell out of the local 1/8th scale buggies on Wed. nights, so what the hell, I may get a heat in or two! Thanks for the advice fellas and here's a linky to my family YouTube site for later video updates: [link=http://www.youtube.com/batts2001]Batts Family[/link] |
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
nice! those wheels would be beastly for bashing. i would upgrade your steering servo. the stock won't hold up. and possible get a new radio for it. about the only things you really need for it.
|
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Looks great. I am a huge hyper 7 fan. Those badlands looks plain nasty.
|
RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Most def Ace. At lunch today I tore up a nearby baseball field. Those damn tires are too damn grippy on grass and pavement. I did notice that the steering servo was kinda slushy. At the end of the romp, the damn battery case came out of its housing and was dangling next to the car. Gotta get some zip ties ASAP. Once I get home tonight I'll post the lunch bash vid and get some great footage from behind the house in the desert and washes.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
yes be careful with those batteries! that same thing happened to me once and i had a runaway! i went and got a recharable battery pack. puts out more power and alot safer. plus i dont have to use a million batteries. i would also recomend that as well.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Yeah stale invest money in a good quality radio. I mean i know the Hyper 7 was only $300 but i would get a spektrum radio for it. and better servos. The spektrum can be matched to several different cars. I got a DX3S for mine. with hitec 7955 titanium gear servos. It helps to make sure you have quality stuff..the hyper 7 is built tough and built well. I know I own a hyper 7, Losi 8ight and now an rc8 and i can say the hyper 7 might be the heaviest one but i like the way it rides and drives.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
Here is a link to a good radio. I use this one in my buggy and would bu it agian if I had to do it over.

RE: Ofna Hyper 7 TQ Black
This is the radio I purchased for my HYPER 7, LOSI 8, RC8, SAVAGE, and REVO And all you need is one radio and just purchase the new receiver..This radio can remember up to 30 different models. As long as it has the spektrum receiver installed.
