Implications of using old fuel?
I bought my son a 2nd hand Hyper 8 a few days ago with a Hyper .21 pullstart. Now in my garage I found a 2 litre bottle of Extreme 20% racing fuel that I bought 6-7 months ago, just before I gave up on this hobby for a while ( new $300 engine sezied in the A main warmup). Anyway just wondering if it would still be ok to use? It's been kept inside. I don't want to damage his motor, not that worried if it doesn't run to 100% perfrowmce tho.

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
Im by no means an expert but what i have been told is that as long as it is kept in a cool dark place it should be fine specially if it hasnt been opened.

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
It'd just run like crap, doubt it'd seize the motor up, the nitro dissapates, not the oil.

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
sounds to me to be a tuneing problem if there lots of nitro coming out pipe.not sure this;)

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
I've used fuel that was many years old with no problems. I agree with JMWRIGHT75. As long as it wasn't left open for any amount of time, water can't get it, and fuel components can't get out.

Just shake it before you use it.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a whirl this weekend, nothing to lose and its only a pullstart engine.

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
Fuel may well sit in a shop for that period of time before being sold.
Id say no problem if sealed. Before you shake it check the bottom for water. If any visable drain off the top and leave the water. I do this with my fuel (for planes, not cars) and as long as there is no visable water it runs OK. |
RE: Implications of using old fuel?
I've been using fuel that is at least 5 years old and it is working fine. Now I don't recommend it and I know I will get better performance out of new fuel but just stating for the record it works.

RE: Implications of using old fuel?
When stored properly I have run fuel I had for 2 years but the the key phrase is stored properly.
