HELP WITH TRUGGY CONVERSION!!

hi, I want to stick some truggy tires on my hyper 7 for fun and was wondering how i should change the gearing to account for the increased tire diameter? anyone with a gearing that works well with most tracks?

RE: HELP WITH TRUGGY CONVERSION!!

just a guess, but your probably going to have to get, bigger dog bones, CVa's, and longer upper and lower control arms to make it work.

RE: HELP WITH TRUGGY CONVERSION!!

i dont know about the HYPER 7 but if it was a 9.5 product, you can just use mutilator parts. i could actually go on ebay and make mine a truggy for about $70 plus $50 for tires.

just research OFNA, they will describe what chassis it is built on in product bios.

HPI makes a deep dish rim with 17mm hubs that will fit right on,,, but you will probily have to take off the dust gards so the wheels can turn. That would get you bashing around the back yard, but I would spend some more time and money if you want to use it for more than that.

I put some tire on my Hyper 7 that came off of a savage XL and I didn't have to changa anything. They fit just fine but they are a bit narrower than regular truggy wheels but I did get the same ground clearance that you would get from truggy wheels. here are some pics.

Thats what I did with one of my first Ofna lx cars. But I used the HPI deepdish and it stuck out thr tires just a bit more.

it handled much better with the buggy wheels on it. it would flip real easy with the bigger tires.

Try to find some Ofna Blazer SST rims and tires. Thar are not that much bigger then the stock tire size. They look great and hander verry well. With a ST body you are done. O,,,, they still have a 17mm hub.

The old LX cars all had the same gearing,,, even the Monster Blazer witch had some realy big tires on it. You should be fine with the gearing but would switch the stock ring and pionin gears to the harden steel ones. A steel sper gear wouldn't be a bad idea eather. But check to make shure that your car dosen't have them stock. I not shure on the Hyper-7.

RE: HELP WITH TRUGGY CONVERSION!!

Yeah, I had a 1/10 scale and wanted taller tires for more ground clearence. I was running thru some grass and it made the car run hot and shut down. On that I used HPI 2.2 tires. I had to make the front tires narrow as it was 2 wheel dr. Now I just put a .15 engine on it and new shocks. The car is like 10 years old but still is fun to run. Now I have a Kyosho mp7.5 sport 4, it has a .21 engine. I just got it, used. I want more clearence on it. I like ur tires they are ok. I wanted badlands in series 30, but can't find rims for them. U get the bigger tires and usually they(the 40 series) are way to big. I agree with the idea of using the HPI cuz of the setback. However u could use hub extentions. I use 30mm ones from ofna. Also gives me a wider stance. I got some tires from an exceede madwarrior. I like the tallness, but they are a little fat. I have also never messed with the gearing, but have always wondered if I should. I do have some pic on my profile of my two cars. The 1/8 scale does not have the bigger tires on it. I am going to put them on and take some pic of it and post them. Oh, I have also added heaver oil(60wt) and heaver springs than standard. White and Blue ones.

RE: HELP WITH TRUGGY CONVERSION!!

Ya,,,, that wouldn't be good. It would prob take you a hour to pick up the peices[X(] I got this thing braking 50MPH with that pipe on it. I have the carb just perfect. My friend is a cop and clocked it at 50.2 MPH. Talk about crazy fast. The gearing isn't stock eather. I had to up it when I put the pipe on. It would just sit and spin, if you will. Way to much power. The funny thing is it is just a 23cc. I couldn't even think of how bad a 30cc would be.
