1st Nitro RC

Hello everyone. I just purchased an Ofna Jammin X1X from Tower Hobbies for $309 shipped. This is my first nitro RC. I havn't owned a RC vehicle for quite a few years and have always wanted a nitro buggy. I don't intend to race with this. Mainly just bashing around town. I started looking at the low-end RC's, and from what I've read on this and other forums, you really shouldn't go that route. I was originally going to get a Hyper 7 TQ, but apparently it's outdated and the X1X has more current design. I have also read about how the chassis can be warped with heavy jumping, and I am buying Ofna parts OFN40579 and OFN40578. Is this a decent vehicle for starters at a decent price? And, any tips for a RC nub?
Thanks

I also just ordered this exacty buggy about 3 days ago! It'll be here Monday:) Yea i've read the same thing, and this is my first buggy. I figure i'll go slow on the break in and jumping until the chassis braces come in. I'll order them this week sometime. I, too, would be interested in any tips people have to offer about this buggy.

good vehicle easy to tune engine, and if parts break you can replace most of them with X2 parts if they break or so I'm told (not broke anything on mine but haven't ran it no where near much as I would like due to bad weather on my days off). I've not broke a part on mine. And yest those 2 braces are a must if your going to be jumping from what I was told by people who owned and own the buggy.

only thing buy a metal geared steering servo theres a few different recommendations on the board the stock one SUCKS, and seeing you are going to have to take a few parts off to put on the braces might as well swap out the servo at the same time. I use a hitec 645MG servo that I got for $28 shipped off ebay (they go for $35+shipping on amain, and most other hobby sites). In al honesty I doubt the stock servo would last a full gallon of nitro without crapping out.

Went to my local hobby shop and turns out they have a myriad of parts for the Jammin X1 laying around. This makes me super happy. Can't wait till tomorrow. From what people say i feel like i'm going to do a small 1 foot jump or something and bend the chassis in half without these braces lol.

well prolly a bit more than that would take to bend it, its just if you land wrong without them it will bend, and lets face it when your new to jumping you land poorly ALOT ;) The stock plastic ones on hard impacts flex and thats why the chassis bends where the alum ones are rigid , and extremely solid. Now if your driving with 0 intention of ever jumping it the plastic ones would probably be fine, but from experience driving on flat surfaces gets old FAST and you start sending them flying :D

guy that told me about it him and his friends were jumping suburbans and crap (hell they got a savage stuck on the roof of their house to show the kinda bashing they do)

I'm got the braces for good measure, could potentially save me $$$ down the road. Also, my LHS has the Z-brace in stock for 20 bucks. Should i pick that up as well? Is that to prevent chassis flex?

RE: 1st Nitro RC

yes it prevents the motors torque from warping the chassis left and right some from when the motor revs, because by the tank theres nothing really there bracing the area, and the torque from the engine will warp it(I've seen this happen on another RC).

I ordered both the front/rear chassis brace as well as the z-brace last night off fleabay. I'm also going to get that Hitec servo as well. My LHS 3 blocks away has them. I'm jealous you're getting your X1X tomorrow! I have to wait til mid-week... BUT, I just bought an HPIMT with a radio off CL for $120! I have to leave right now to pick it up.

I'll pick up the z-brace as soon as i take my X1X up there for a break-in at the track. Yea i'm pretty psyched. Too bad i have to work tomorrow:(:( Tuesday will be my breaking in/testing day. Yea a good friend of mine (neighbor actually) swears by the Nitro MT. He just bought his 3rd! lol. I just have my Factory Team GT, and MGT 4.6 to keep me company until this thing arrives. Hope you have great fun with yours dude! I know i will.

LOL I got 2 Nitro MT1's well had...
ones now a MT2 seeing only stock parts left are the dogbones, diffs and axels everything else was replaced ;)
other I converted to electric (redoing the design currently due to isues I had)
good lil trucks IMO

already got the hitec steering servo I ordered off the dude on ebay thursday night (hell 2 buisness days not bad for shipping :D) now only need my jammin X1 CRT roller I won that night
I planned originally to make my Jammin X1 CR into the CRT version when I got it but saw a roller for $110 on ebay the other day I figured after I got done ordering shocks, longer arms, longer CVD's, and the body mounts for a conversion I'd be past what a roller would cost :D

RE: 1st Nitro RC

Mine came today finally. I ran about 5 tanks for a good break in. This thing's fuel tank is ridiculous. Seems it takes 15-20 minutes to run through a tank. As usual, the engine came extremely rich but was easy enough to tune. The only thing that needed prior adjusting was my brake linkage, because it was barely catching the break almost making it nonexistent, and my idle screw on the carb. Other than that it fired up real nicely and has been fun since. Gonna install the chassis braces tonight and take it to the track tomorrow to see what she can do.

I got my X1! I had my LHS break in the motor. I was chicken... I got it back today though, and I'm very pleased with it. Runs like a champ, and very fast. I just ran one tank, but it was awesome. All weekend I'm going to bash!

Did ya get the braces? Mine are on and looking good. Fingers crossed i don't split the chassis in half or something ridiculous.

I just got the braces in last night. Was pretty easy. I'm not going to worry over a few jumps now. Totally stoked!</p>

Just got back from the local school. Bashing around the playground and baseball fields. After about 15 minutes, I burned out the stock steering servo... Lame! Made it just in time to my LHS and got a Hitec servo. Man, I just took it apart last night to install the chassis braces...

Yea I replaced mine when I did the braces. Reason why I tell everyone order one along with the braces :D
Honestly I put the ofna servo in a light ass electric stampede and it had (I think it died actually or the ESC did didn't check yet) issues turning it how in the hell did they expect it to last in 1/8th scale buggies.

I still need to put my servo in. For now the stock one is doing "okay". I actually managed to get my braces in without taking the car really apart, so to speak. It was a pain. lol I'm finally off work tomorrow and i'm planning on doing some serious driving, all day.

same I just unscrewed the 2 braces and popped em out and had to fiddle with the new ones. Personally I found the servo more of a pain to replace, and took a bit longer.
