Default Bad driving , icy roads , or easy way to kill the wife

Ok , now that I got your attention ... although it may be funny , it also is not !
I am posting a link to a vid of my airboat today on ICE ( no snow , just sheer ice ).
Before viewing take EXTREME precautions BEFORE running on ice .
Some might ask -
"was I trying to wipe out my wife ( aka - camera person )"
or
"am I that bad of a driver ?"
Or ,
"is it REALLY that hard to steer and control the airboat on ice ?"

Well , Lets see .... I would never hurt my camera person - ( err - I mean wife - )
And am I really that bad of a driver ? Naw ... I don;t think so
Now , is it REALLY that hard to control on ice ?

YEP you betcha it is ! ! !

Anyway ... an NO time was this EVER even close to full bore running ... ( shoot ... seems ANY speed above 10 to 15 mph and the control got almost to the point of having NONE ! ) Tx has dual rate which makes it easy , since it was set on HALF throw for the throttle control rather than full throw .
So ... maybe that also might have answered your question -
"is that all the faster she goes ? " - NOPE .... just a guess - probably around 3 to 4 times that fast ( maybe more ... not really sure )
Oh , and in the video , that part of the lake is about 600 feet from where we were standing to the furtherest point where the boat was . ( maybe a hair more )
You can tel by the sound of the engine verses the wind that she was QUITE a bit away . ( Ryobi modded and maxed with NO muffler system at all - no tune pipe , no nothing . )

ENJOY [8D] [8D]

( the vid is 4.4 megs in size and is WMV ( windows media video ) format .

[link=http://home.mchsi.com/~terboinc/AirboatIce.wmv]Airboat on Ice ( nope - sorry , not Disney on Ice [/link]

And for those interested ... no , my wife did not get hit , or hurt in anyway .
Now ... if you ask if she had to go home and change her draws ..............

Then I would have to say - YEP you betcha

And FTR - the boat , although it may not look like she was going fast , went UP the little hill/island stick out , we were on , and right across the other side with it just idling . The little peer style piece of land we were standing on is about 15 feet wide , with NO snow or ice on it at all . Where the video gets a bit shaky , the wife had zoomed in ( 26 X ) and it was a bit chilly out there ( 19 degrees with the wind )

Very nice TERBObob! It's good to see someone else having fun on the ice. Is that a 31cc Ryobi and what are the dimensions and weight? Looks like a good performer. I've driven two on snow
quite a bit and the black one on ice it is a blast. I found the best way to turn it is to get it turning
one way and then whip it around the other, they also seem to turn better one direction because of the torque. I had the white one on my flying field last weekend with a couple inches of snow and I estimated it at about 40 mph and climbing before I had to slow down. It's got a Moki .51 on it and really winds up. Thanks for sharing the video.

Hey Dan ,
Yep , you got her right - Ryobi 31 modded ( transfers opened and smoothed - all four that is , manifolds opened widened and jug shaved , running a carb bored to 14 mm , compression at 175 ish . )
Shame though that there wasn't a tad bit of snow on top of the ice ... THEN I could have opened her up more , had more control and maybe not come so close to hitting my wife -
But ... hopefully soon though .
As soon as I get her running on some snow ( not like the first time ... where she hit a frozen pair of "clumps" and busted her up - on the ground ) , I will shoot , or should say , have the wife shoot some more video ( if she will [img][http://home.mchsi.com/~terboinc/roll.gif/image] not so sure after todays little escape )

The size of the boat is 35 inches long , 28 inches wide and 4 inches tall . She weighs a TON also .... ( only kidding ... weighs about 26 pounds full of fuel - 20 ounce tank )

Me thinks someone needs to stick to running on liquid H2O

At least for the wife's sake...........she'll be able to run away.........

i love the short video clip, LMAo when i saw it, very funny,

i did something simmilar in my house, was testing thrust power in my living room with an electric motor, duck-taped hot wheels to the bottom and let it go. it flew through my living room almost hit my dog fliped over and shattered a $15 prop, i was soooooo pissed[:@], but now that i think about it the funnier it gets.

Riotair

They are both 1.5" thick. The white one is 19" by 36" and has a moki .51.
The black one is 16" by 32" and has a GMS .32
White one weighs about 11.5 lbs and the black one weighs about 6.5 lbs
