RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
Hi things went wrong with the original hull plans, so i thought to save time , i will buy some seaplane floats and use them so heres a few pictures to show whats going on with the plan.
just got to make the rudder mounts and new canopy to hold/hide the radio gear and sort out the flat hull surfaces and make them more vee shaped

I've seen other plane float boats and am looking forward to this one as well!
In case you aren't already leaning in that direction, I would suggest water rudders unless you put air rudders out back on a tail.

Yes rudders will be changable for windy days, and land use , as in the first design pics.
The plan has not changed too much from the original design, I think ??

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
Hi, I got them from my local hobby store here in the UK, they are made by FLAIR, they are 36 inch long and made to take the weight of an 8lb plane, so i am hoping my .61 Super Tigre will get the boat moving at a good speed

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
thanx, all it needs is the fusealarge and wing and its a seaplane, they take off at high speed so this should go fast(i hope) and it`s about 6 lbs lighter than the planes are, it should cause quite a swamp song

The question that you ask in the other post, you should be ok with the weight being 3lbs, since I'm not seeing any thing that would cause a lifting problem. The location of the engine foward and back looks to be in a good place. The only thing I'm seeing is that the prop will more than likely hit the water will while trying to get on plane, unless your planning to have something under the prop to deflet the water away from the prop. You are doing things right, going into it with open eyes and willing to trail and error.

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
I have tried the boat in the bath it sits on the water, and barely 2mm of the hulls sit under the water so its like its on the plane already. I just hope i dont have to make too many adjustments when i get it in the water for the first run, The prop is 2 inches above the water, maybe a splash guard between the hulls would help lift and deflect the bigger waves from hitting the prop ??
another trial and error test coming soon
and the new diamentions are now 36" x 14"
some more pics of the build, rudders work great , i just need to finish the water rudder mount.

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
After having trouble starting the engine, due to high compression and not wanting to lose my fingers, i ordered the bits i needed from Tower hobbies which came this morning so i converted my rotorstart and added a hi torque 600 motor to it (parts i had lying around), it works well, and i dont have to carry a big 12volt battery around just a 7.2volt nicad,
But now i`ve cooked the starter switch [sm=thumbs_down.gif][sm=what_smile.gif]
but now added another switch
donar canopies made from my old kyosho airstreak 500 and some design ideas??

I will now have to rethink my colour sheme, [sm=idea.gif] I opened my tin of resin today and found out that it`s dark blue

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
well i`ve had a look in the garage to see what paints i had hiding away , many cans of matt and satin black, and a flouro yellow so with the blue resin i have decided it will end up something like this (but it could change)
I should be able to see it ok at high speed with the big bright yellow rudders [8D]
water rudder moved back and nearly complete using another donar part from my old kyosho airstreak 500

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
Well i`ve worked with poly resin and never found it as hard work as this epoxy resin, its very thick and dries very quick, even with heat under the mixing pot and the room with the heat of a sauna, so i`ve only managed to get one float half done, it needs sanding and it will be ready for the next coat,I just need to find a good way of thinning the resin?
I added an angled strip of balsa to the outside edges of the front of the floats to help lift the hull above the water when drifting sideways, and that should stop the boat digging in, and flipping over in cornering, Tests was done in a nieghbours fishpond and results was successful

I think the heat cures the epoxy resin faster. You can warm it up to make it more usable but it gives less working time.
I have limited experience with it...but I had the best luck at 70 deg. F. Flows good but has a longer working time.

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
The heat from a hair dryer helped keep the resin flowing and more workable for longer, I might try changing the ratio of things , its now at 10 parts resin to 1 part catalyst, I will try a 15 to 1 mix and see if i get more time to use it ? I wish i had used the poly resin now , I have used it for many years making fairings for my bikes and Gnome molds in one of my old jobs, and it never dried as quick as this epoxy resin .The best part of this epoxy resin was the price, 2 quid for 500g and it dont stink bad, it was an ebay bargain [sm=thumbs_up.gif],

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
Right getting back to the build after playing with my other projects, 15 to 1 mix with the resin, and catalyst it gives me more time to work with it, so i should finish the resin work soon , and the sun is shining so i can work outside without getting the kitchen covered in resin

yes the weather has been great over the holiday weekend , 2 weeks ago it was freezin, this weekend i`ve been getting a tan, i love global warming The 15 to 1 mix gives me more time to work with the resin, but it takes a lot longer to completely cure , oh well more time for beers [8D]
Dunkin dohnuts is my hobby

RE: Got any ideas for my idea??
Got my stuff out of my sisters garage and started to play again, Tried to fire up the .61 with some old 5% nitro that has sat in a tank for.......... well a long time, gave it a shake up, primed the carb and nothing...... glow battery was flatter than a hedgehog on a motorway, charged it up for 20 minutes, and the starting recommenced, a couple of turns with the chicken finger (bad memories of without one) the engine fired up, i let it tick over for a bit, before giving it some welly, after annoying the neighbours with the screaming supertigre, i decided i will get a quieter pipe, and one that is ok for the engine, the tuned pipe i have on it is for a .40 engine so, time to change it for a .60 - .90 pipe
