Default Nitro to electric?

Greetings. Below is my old airboat, recently my boy has taken an intrest in it, so I got it out of storage for him to have a play.
I've replaced the old OS .40 nitro with a stock 540 type motor.
Now here comes my question, I'd really like it to be as fast with electris as it was with nitro, maybe one of those electric jet engines? The cheaper the better, funds are low.

Thanks

Nice boat you got there. Whats the weight? If you want speed you should probably go with a brushless outrunner and lipos. Nimhs will do okay also. A good place for less expensive items is bphobbies or hobbycity. An edf will cost you more.

Adding to what has been said above, because you d'ont use electrical propeller for HP (hipper drive), to have less weight and improve the efficiency of the engine( http://www.gwsus.com/english/product.../propeller.htm )
I d'ont know what the size of propeller you are using, but for an engine class 600 ( http://www.electrifly.com/motors/speed600.html ) box, and without reducing the propeller indicated would be a 8X4.
Perhaps the ideal would you use a box of reduction in the range of 2:1 to a size of propeller in the range 10X6
I would also like to know the dimensions and weight of his airboat.

The boat weighs 4lbs. Without battery.
the boat is 30 by 13 inches and I currently use a 10x6 prop.

I used a
graupner 700 bb motor that was very powerful ran it with two cells in a jet stream 800 boats changed that to nitro too you should keep it nitro and just be there for when your boy wants to take it out so he can keep his ten fingers

That boat is heavy for 540 motor-my flatbottom boat is using a 540 with a 9by6 electric master airscrew prop but it only weighs about 2 lbs with everything. It would be expensive to equal the power of a 40 nitro with electric.Cheaper to find a lighter hull or build one.

Thanks for the replies Guys, I thought it might be a little pricey, I will just put the nitro engine back on. If he wants an electric boat I'll source a small electric for him.

I think that if you can put a box of reduction from 2:1 to 3:1 with propeller 10X6, you can use a higher voltage in the range of up to 3 cells, have the lowest jakosti, greater autonomy, in a box reduction should have the approximate cost of $ 10.00, not counting that you can turn off the engine .....

By the time you buy a brushless motor,ESC,gearbox and 3S lipos the cost would be more than a new 40 nitro motor![:-]
