boat issues! how to fix
k well i built a nice depron hull for a 540 moter brushed and a lrp runnerplus waterproof speed control and a servo and reciever but now on its 2nd voyage it seems to be running extremely slow and the problem seems to be getiing worse. the prop moves slow and the batterys ay are good so there are three things that this could be moter to big of prop or my esc. what do you think it is ,please tel me what to replace it with? oh and i have a 9by6 prop with a 540 moter and yeah thats about it also my boat on its first run was taking on water so i put about 4 layers of epoxy and i still have a leak so if you know how to locate leaks please tell. thanks for any imput.

what motor are you using? iv used a 20t motor witha 10X6 prop on 7.2v 3300mah battery. if your motor is lower than 20t, then it doesnt have enough torque for the prop...its likely getting hot and damaged.(brushes ect) iv stuck my vxl brushless motor onto my boat for a short run witha lipo battery, it was crazy. make the 20t brushed motor look like junk. but, a brushless system and lipo batt are alot of money to stick on a boat[&:]

yeah see the thing is my moter doesnt get hot at all just warm. it s that tempatur where you could hold your hand on it forever so i dont think thers a heat thing. the moter is a tamiya sport tunes rs 540 moter. designed for high rpm and lower current drain. so im leaning towards it being my speed control. im going to my LHS soon to talk to the ppl at the rc desk aabout it .
oh and i moved my moter forward and made the boat to sit jusst a little back when just sitting in the water.

The easiest way to locate a leak is to put a few inches of water in the bath tub and put the boat into it . Weight the boat down as low as you can get it without swamping it.
Look and see where the water is getting in. The most likely place, since you have sealed the boat hull, is the stuffing box. If the water does not come in with the prop stationary, run the motor and see if it leaks under power. Either way to remedy this remove the prop shaft and get a good grade grease and put some into the tube. Coat the prop shaft as you insert it into the tube again. You may have to do this periodically to keep the leakage down. Hope this helps.

? I don't think the stuffing box is an issue here....it's an air propped boat. LOL
Pictures would be a big help.......Mr.ilikehelp.

Just general shots for now, maybe some close ups of the seams.
Here's an idea: can you fill the hull with water? If you can, do it and see where the water comes out.

Motor rotation depends on the prop. With electronic speed controls I think you get the same amount of power either way (forward or reverse) Don't quote me though, I don't do electric.
Sorry to hear about the accident, can you fix Depron?

how heavy will it be once dried: It does have some "heft" to it. Careful how much you apply
how do you do it: Mix 1 oz of the resin with 9 drops of the supplied liquid hardner
where can i get it: Menards, Wal-Mart and of course any Big A auto parts or Champion auto...maybe even Advance auto. Call around to find out.

You can trowel it on in thin coats or you can brush it on.

Define: "A lot"
A lot to you might not be a lot to me.....LOL
Doing that would keep the weight down for sure. Use a light cloth and see how it goes.

Which way should the motor turn? Depends on the prop. The correct direction is the one that makes the boat go in the direction you want it to.
Why 'sluggish'? Is the battery fully charged? Is the prop too big for the motor? Can the ESC supply the required voltage/current? Is the dang thing just too heavy? Which is the 'right' answer? Beats me, change things a bit and see.
Fiberglassing. I hate that stuff! It makes me itch. But it works very nicely if done correctly. How do you do it correctly? Read the instructions, all resins are not created equally. Meaning that the stuff you add to harden it may be measured in 'drops', or equal volumes as the 'goop', or whatever, and can 'cure' in seconds or weeks if not done correctly. 'Smooth' is good. 'Rough' is bad. The only way I would say NOT to apply it is with your bare fingers! Makes you itch, and a real P.I.T.A. to get it off, and it stinks.
You are going through the same process as most of us have gone through trying to learn what to do, what not to do, about whatever is being used to do it with. Ain't it fun??
